Has anyone fit the CN36 185/70WR15 on a stock bodied 914? In looking at the specs for this tire I noticed the actual section width is considerably more than a typical 185 tire. The CN36 is listed as having a section width of 220mm or 8.66" inches.....that's wider than a lot of 205 spec. tires. The Michelin XWX in the same 185 size has a section width 189mm or 7.44" inches and the Vredestein Sprint Classics list the 185 width as 188mm or 7.4" inches. That's a big difference.....any insight on why there's such a disparity? If anyone has any photos of the CN36 installed that would be great also.

Can't help you out much, but looking at the same tire different size for my 75 Carrera so will be watching

Also, the tire looks very rounded.. ie, the width maximum is not from shoulder to shoulder of the tire.. It kind fans out from the rim and tapers back in to the tread patter. I recall 185/70s off all makes fitting on stock cars "back in the day" as long as you were on Porsche wheels (not VW/Rivieras etc). Ride height and alignment should always be considered though.

Thanks Steve, I saw that on the Lucas site.....still interesting why that 201mm size is bigger. I did find a photo of the CN36 on a 914.....it's in the 14" dia.

Yes, the 185x70x15 tires were the immediate upgrade tire. Everybody made that size tire. I was the hot ticket because that was the size the 911 used. I think Cooker Tire has the reproduction XZX Michelin tire and Vredestein makes one too in that size.

I remember getting Koni shocks and CN36 Pirellis on my BMW 2002 when I was 19.

I really thought I was something special after that.

They were great tires, but didn't last long the way I drove.

Looking at these tires right now. Has anybody mounted them on a 914 with 15” rims recently? Thinking about 185/70/15.

cn36s were fun back then, 185/70x15

I ended up getting them for my Carrera and got about 1k miles in on them. I must say they stick way better than I had anticipated. I"m a fan and they do complete the "look".

Correct, Coker tire makes the XZX in their factory for Michelin and is available through Lucas tire. I bought one in 165 SR 15 as a spare for the original look and the fact that it lays flat in the frunk.
