Customer purchased car knowing that it wasn’t running but was told it just needed a couple things. I guess a new engine was one of those “things”.

Dump some Marvel Mystery Oil on it. It will fire right up.

They didn't look at any pictures beforehand?

I bet the rest of the car is perfect, though. barf.gif

They all ran before they were parked is what I say. The fly in the ointment is why they got parked.

Picked up a 73 2.0 a few years ago in Michigan.. Guy said he was driving and heard a small pop sound and the car quit. He towed it home and let it sit outside for 4 yrs. Said he wasn't able to figure out why it quit running. I popped the engine lid and found this. blink.gif

Small 'pop'....

Must have had a good stereo and had it blasting to miss the horrid rattling before that let go.

Yikes!

Hope the buyer is doing OK, that can't have been a fun phone call for anyone involved.

Minor detail.

He has a 20 car collection of high end cars so he won’t be hurt, just a little bummed.

Just a flesh wound...

If it was a four, I would be a little pissed - couple hundred bucks for a core. With what six cores are going for now, I would be furious.

Not a whole lot you can do though - buyer beware...

A magnesium won't be easy to repair. Aluminum 2.0 cases are now worth gold.

It's a throw away unless it's the original to the car. Then the owner is left with trying to find a machinist/welder and that's if it can be saved.

There are cases that can be welded and used again. This isn’t one of them.
It’s origional to the car, that’s why the owner was a bit bummed.

We just got in a ‘68 sand cast long block. We will probably tear it down, rebuild it and then sell it for $20k.

Make me want to go fix a bridge, that stuff looks amazing.

There is(was?) a fellow working on producing new aluminum cases (Taormina Racing). Though I’m sure they won’t be cheap, a freshly crafted case would be nice to start your build.

A 3.6 is a big engine for an early longhood. We’ve already built him two hot rods. He’s getting a pretty similar engine to what was in the car.
