Hello, my mechanic rescued —what appears to be— a 914-6 muffler from an early pristine 911s. The 911s owner had no idea it was a 914-6 muffler

The owner wants to sell the muffler for a fair price but has no idea what that is.

I took two pictures.

Note: I have no skin in the game past wanting it to go to a good home.

What brand is it?
If it's a Leistritz, then it's worth some money for sure.
It will be etched into the steel and you can read it.
A nice one can be $750-1000.

how do you know it's a 914/6 muffler and not a 911 aftermarket item?

fwiw - i sold a good used 911 mufler for $200 awhile back; shipping is no small consideration for these & Bursch's

The location and angle of the tail pipe is different ...

It appears to be a 911 muffler as the 914-6 tailpipe has a much more abrupt bend.

This is what my friend mentioned was the difference.

I’ll get a shot of the serial number and other markings on Monday.

mfg markings / part # / date codes for early mufflers would usually be along the area marked in red

Had a chance to visit the garage and it appears to be original.

Ideas on price? The shop owner wants the muffler put on an original 6.

A 70 Leistritz in that nice of condition is worth some bucks.
There are a couple on Ebay right now that are newer and no where as nice asking $500.
If it's a real 914-6 Leistritz, they are very rare indeed.

I sold the same one that was on my 6 #41 dated 8/69 for $350. On EBay several mounts ago. A guy bought it for his 1969 911

What a coincidence, I checked the part number on an 'early 911' muffler i had bought quite a few years ago and the part number and manufacturer is the same as this one. Is that part number what determines it to be a -6?

Edit: looks like that 901.111.011.11 part number is definitely 914-6. Simply awesome! I am going to run that muffler I have on my built -4 and see how it sounds
