Another wheel/tire combo for visual reference.

Fuchs replica wheels: 7" front & 8" rear x 16" Dia.
verified tire sizes are: 225/50-16 front & 245/45-16 rear

IMO front tires look too big, probably should have went with 225/45-16 in front.
or possibly better yet 205/50-16 front and 225/50-16 rear that will reduce the unsprung weight a bit. smile.gif

So far I’m the only 7X16 front 9X16 rear. My rears are actually custom built Weidman 8.5X16 but that isn’t a poll choice. My reason for going with these is tire option availability and the fact that it perfectly fills the wheel well in the rear.

What's with the smoke screen? Great looking car.

More flare and fuchs pics! I want this thread to be a nice reference for choosing fuchs wheels sizes with GT flares! smile.gif

Is this a painted or bead blasted finish on these wheels? Did you remove the annodized finish first?

Those are Weidman Wheels. Harvey's special recipe.

More flares and fuchs! This car sits a bit high IMO. Wheels appear to be 8s X 16" all the way around.

Yes, you are correct. I suppose this is an illustration of something to avoid. icon8.gif

When I located my flares, I aligned the GT flare openings to the original fender openings in every way. smile.gif

a nice new pic below! this car almost makes me wish I went with yellow unsure.gif

That’s anodized. It’s commonly called the RSR finish. Can be done with paint.

I looked at the suspect flares install on the silver car. I don't think the flares are on the wrong sides. However it certainly looks like they did not trim or cut the flares to position the wheel openings to match the original openings. I had to trim off about .75" on the rear leg of both rear flares to bring the openings lower to match up to OE. It was quite a bit of extra work but I am happy to have done so, it looks noticeably better.
Also as was mentioned before, the silver car also positioned the flare openings too far aft.

FWIW, Here is another pic to keep the thread theme going smile.gif

replied to your cross-post in originality section

is your question "what fits? " or What is oem correct?" or "what tire fits a 15x6 wheel & still fits in the fenderwell" ???

15x5.5 or 14x5.5 wheels are period correct if your objective is concours - good performance street tires for those are a challenge

Man, that's a great looking car! wub.gif

Are you running BFG Radial T/As? Been wondering how T/As are on a 914...as they look super right because their design goes so far back. I have long wondered if their compounding has been improved, and how they stack up against other "vintage look" options out there (Pirellis, Avons) as well as some of the more modern options.

Thanks for posting, and any feedback you've got would be more than appreciated!

No spacers. Sorry it took so long for me to post the size of the new tires that Eric picked out for my 16s. I think they look very good.

Size and brand.
