I’m looking for a 914-6 relay board.

It seems like one came up for sale on here a year or so ago. I’ll just keep looking.

So what would one of those be worth?

I paid $500 for mine a year and a half ago and was glad to get it.

When I do find one, is there any way to make sure it works?
toolguy
May be a dumb question but can you modify a 4 board to work ??
I tend to agree, it will be one of the hardest SIX OE parts to locate.
raynekat
I got mine a year or so ago from Camp 914 and it was about $300-400.

Anyway to make sure it works?
Well, I put together a wiring schematic for the 914-6 relay board and used my multimeter checking every terminal on the board.
Ended up finding two open circuits that required a bit of soldering on the backside and re-potting.
That's the only way I know to absolutely be sure the board is functional.

Any other questions about that, PM me...

You can use the stock -4 board with some pin rearranging if I remember correctly. The -6 board is unique only because it has the tach ballast and the engine EGR relay. Most people took out the EGR relay because it caused fuel problems for the carbs. A tach ballast can easily be installed by all the known repair shops. MOST 911 tachs from 1971 on came with ballasts in them. You just have to check.

Since I've been thru this in the last 6 months...it's fresh in my mind.

The unique things the 914-6 relay board has are the following:

1) socket for the RPM Transducer/Speed Switch

2) Cold start relay

and that's about it.

Since I was installing an MFI engine in my car, I wanted the RPM Transducer/Speed Switch.
Pretty essential if you're doing this kind of engine.
Likely the same if you're going with carbs.

I rewired the rear window defogger relay as my fuel pump relay.
The great thing about the 914-6 board is that it's not all clogged up with the 914-4 fuel injection computer inputs/wiring.
The 911 engines are very much more simple.

The 914-6 board has enough extra traces that you can run most of the extra gauge wiring, etc right on the board.
I ran everything...I mean everything I needed through the 914-6 board and added a couple extra wires to go down through the tunnel to take care of all my needs.
Couldn't have done that with the 914-4 board.

That's just much thoughts.
I have a wiring schematic of the 914-6 board and how I used it with my 2.7 MFI engine if anyone is interested.
I'll send it free of charge to those interested.

I had an email exchange with a couple parts collectors about 6 relay boards about a year ago, and they felt like a perfect board with all the components was $8-1000 which seemed on the high side to me, but then again try to find one. I've got one in my "black hole" and was curious as to the value.

As raynekat can probably attest, a lot of MFI parts were cast aside years ago, and getting good working parts can be difficult.

Tony - Did you ever call Len

I remember when Chris Foley was selling a NOS 6 board for $600 and that seemed high.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I’d like to find an original six board. I’m in no hurry.
