My first car was a 914/6 and I smashed it and the body shop put a front clip on it.....I wonder if this it? I bought it in Colorado and sold it in Los Angeles. It was sliver BTW....hmmmm?

You can see the seam going down the drivers side fender well where they welded on the later front clip.

You can also see the accident damage in the trunk floor pan and the wrinkles in the passenger side fender well.

Looks like it took a good hit in the drivers side front ...

The Karman number is in the wrong place for SIX. . it should be in the dead center.
Fours had them on the right side as pictured.

More I oddities:

No black coating around front strut towers.
No sway bars F or R. Rear trunk reinforcement plates missing. Front A-arms have tabs. Maybe these were just removed.
Retractable belts in 1971?

The whole front trunk is a wrinkly clipped mess.
914 6s never had sway bars....even as an option.
Maybe its a crashed later car with ID nos. grafted in ?
Check the hardware holding the trim at the back of the roof.

I beg to differ. My original /6 has a front sway bar and I doubt it was a dealer item.

As for the pictures, I'm a bit curious about the underneath shots of the firewall. Is that reddish color item an old style glass fuel filter??

Karmann Number are located to the passenger side of the trunk on 1971 & 1972 914/6.
Another difference is the early 1970 914/4, it had the Karmann Number in the center of the rear trunk.
