A guy really ought to read the label! I have two sets of Webers. One pair came with the engine and another with the car. I thought they were the same. Couldn't figure out why one pair had 36mm venturis....duh!... because they are 44's. I have the 40's on the car now.
Engine is fresh but stock 2.0 (except cam, don't know brand or specs). Should I try the 44's? What should I expect if I switch just for fun?

Read the plugs, check the fuel flow. If it runs well on the 40s stay there. 44s are pretty big, I have them on my 2.4.

Stay with the 40's. You'll end up running the same venturi's in the 44's that the 40's have in them. The only time I use 44's is if I know its a big cammed 2.0 race engine (most of our rules state I have to run 40's)
