I wouldn't have used a MIG.

I'd never use that paint.

Why'd you paint it that color?

Sounds about right. shades.gif

I like that color combo! sunglasses.gif

VW Monsoon Grey Metallic and Chrysler Sublime Metallic. I'm happy with the outcome.
Series9
Front fenders and front deck will be finished this weekend. I'm ready to be done with it....

Your planning to paint the rest of the truck in that same scheme, right?

No. Why?

Series9
I did the hood and the painter did the fenders.

More soon....

Series9
Looking good.

Series9
The painting I'm doing is being shot with a Harbor Freight purple HVLP gun. $25.

They work fine if you take them completely apart and clean them thoroughly before use.

They obviously don't last like a SATA, but I just get two and throw it in the trash the moment it starts messing up.

My painter uses a SATA. If you get your car painted here, I promise not to use a Harbor Freight gun on your car. smile.gif
Ferg
Color and overall look is big improvement.

Series9
It was time. I reached the point where the truck was looking too rough to be a good representative for my business.

I spent some time looking for a newer truck, but finally decided put my old friend right.

The painter and I decided to take a break next weekend, so two weeks to go...
ThePaintedMan
I miss hanging out in that shop. Looks good Joe.

Nice! smile.gif

That color combo would look great on a 914. I like nice paint jobs on other peoples cars. If I get a nice paint job I may as well put a target on my car. sad.gif
Series9
Getting there....

I decided the nose was getting a little dark with the new scheme, so I ordered a new chrome grill. The bumper is coming off to be shot with the good 'ole Rustoleum satin.
Series9
New back bumper from a later model. I like the larger step area of this one.

smile.gif That's better. Thanks Eric. Back to normal.

Front bumper with oil-based Rustoleum shot out of an HVLP gun.

Dilute with 15% ish acetone so it dries quickly in the sun and you're golden. This is two coats.

bulitt
I like the Rustoleum high performance paint. Use it on my trailer.
But don't think you will be happy with it after several years- lots of fade.
You might be better off with cheap Tractor enamel from Tractor Supply with a thinner and hardener. John Deere Blitz Black maybe?

https://www.greenpartstore.com/John-Deere-B...nt-TY25631.html

And those HF guns are great! I catch them on sale for 13$.
Series9
Much better. Chrome grill is on the way...

Series9
Today's addition of the chrome grill.

Doors and cab get paint this weekend.....

Sooooo..... that beast looks ready for another doughnut video?
Series9
I tried to get my wife to ride. No dice.....
Series9

Weather was shit this weekend, so I'm behind.

Driver's jamb and back of the cab are done.

Series9
And:

And it will totally do it, but I have to respect the limitations of the 6.0. It's the weakest of the bunch in the head gasket class. I have many, many good miles on this work horse by respecting its weaknesses.

I will tell you though, if I decide to put the pedal down, very few small sports cars can beat it to the next light. The power is pretty amazing.

7000# EMPTY and you will have your ass handed to you in a stop light race.
DRPHIL914
I like the new color, it looks almost identical to my Lincoln navigator.
Series9
Jambs are finally finished.

New nose is on:

Series9

Doors started arriving from the painter....

Ferg
Man, it's really turning out nice. aktion035.gif Are you going to do a pinstripe to separate the green and grey like the factory would have?
Ed_Turbo
After you fix it up sell it and buy a Chevy. shades.gif biggrin.gif

Yes, loctiting internals is cheap insurance so you do not have to do a timely tear down and do the same job twice. Do it right the first time!

Maybe.......if they don't all line up. smile.gif
Series9

I can't believe it. The paint is done. I'll put it back together tomorrow..

Series9

Yes! Windshield and vinyl decals to go (and I'm not doing either). beerchug.gif

Series9

Found a guy to do the windshield at 4:30 on a Saturday and he was $100 cheaper than any of the big guys who couldn't do it until next week.

It amuses me that there is a Ford F250 restoration thread on the front page that started out of sheer spite over thread lock and everyone just rolls with it. Do they give out honorary PCAs?
76-914
Looks great. Now for a few details. What year is it and which model year did the grille and lighting come from? What kind of $$$ are we talking about for the upgrade? beerchug.gif

It's a 2006. All the parts are for that range of years. Ford parts are cheaper than Porsche parts. The lights and grill were $200 for everything.

It's getting decals right now.....
