I'll never understand the "Barn Find/Garage Find" trend of selling it with all of the dust and dirt. Is this so that the buyer can be the one to give it it's first cleaning and all the "glory" that comes with that moment?

I wonder how much the dealer paid the elderly person or family for it. Wait, no, I don't want to know because I'll get depressed biggrin.gif

Thanks for sharing, the car is beautiful. I’m on the hunt for an original six (and the wife us supportive) but the inner door / rocker rust looks extensive. in addition, the motor will probably need a rebuild and by the time we restored the car we would have well over $100K in the vehicle. smile.gif After our last two nut and bolt restorations we are looking for a more turn key 6 and will most likely go the auction route.

Wow. That is indeed a nice car and as original as I have ever seen. Sure it needs some work, but it is all there. That's a tough one though - clean and correct any issues and drive it. Why couldn't I find one of those in a garage to join my '71 in my garage?

Denpends on the car, color, and the PO history... but we expect 75-110.

Yep the bumper is a clue, look closely at the picture that shows the drivers quarter panel looking up from the jack post. It appears that a quarter panel was rivited on blink.gif Add in the rust in the pass side lower door sill bottom this one is gonna need a bunch of work.

I'm clueless with paint thickness measurements, but what does it mean when the readings go from 3-6 and then jump to 17-20 at that rear drivers side fender?

3.5 to 6 would be "ok". When you get to double digits it's had paint work. Worse scenario is when the meter goes to "infinity", as in it cannot get a reading. That's plastic.

Good eye on those rivets Ferg!! 20 mils on the rear of that panel. The car needs to be around 30k Add a fresh engine, correct the improper repairs, Cracked dash pad, Etc., etc., go over the entire car with the Ferg treatment... FERG.gif Then you have a car worth the price it could bring.

Everything that has patina with this car is not adding value because the next owner will have to either throw it away or fix it. I don't get the patina thing either. If it's rusted, busted, corroded or otherwise not usable I call it garbage.

I enjoyed the paperwork. The doctor traded his 65 Vette in and got $2,000 for it.

Nice find...

Apparently it has been hit in the rear and repaired.
Rear bumper late model....etc. as noted.
Also seam sealer in the rear trunk is another key...that's not how factory looks when painted.

Why is the engine relay box mounted to the firewall??? Part of the body repair?

Even has all the cold start fuel plumbing installed (FIRE, FIRE, FIRE)

Good eye on spotting the rivets, the mid west is hard on old 914s

This 6 has a lot of appeal....I actually like the patina. It reminds me of John Straub's SWB 911.....which is well known in the vintage 911 circles. If the 6 was mine I'd leave it as-is and just make sure it was mechanically / structurally sound.

I appreciate the honesty of the car and seller on this one. One thing that stands out is the perfect alignment of the hood/headlights/eyebrows. Missing is the chrome steel wheels in lieu of alloys. Without observing the service documents I think 186,000 miles seems more likely judging from the coco mats and black Webers IMHO. Website says sale pending.

Wow. I love looking at the pictures of this car. It is 24 chassis numbers and 4 engine numbers from my identical light ivory car

The very original frunk with the black goo shock towers and no charcoal canister are really interesting. The engine with all the original cold start is off the chart! I would love to see the underside just cleaned up a bit as I suspect it would give accurate insight into the the undercoat with overspray vs painted underside debate.

Not sure Fergs rivet comment is accurate - that could be a reflection from the building structure. And the relocation of the relay board is curious, although the firewall location was used on the GT.

At any rate this a great time capsule and I for one would probably lean towards preservation vice restoration. You just can not replicate the ambiance of some of this stuff!

very cool..... Kinda sucks that the dealer swapped the Fuch spare wheel. Did it say anywhere why the car was parked?

Who saves 13 year old newspapers in the car? 79 paper in a car parked in 92

Great that the owner was a driver.... lots of miles, carpet is worn under the clutch. Probably only 1 person drove it. And he was prepared. Spare cables in the trunk.

I looked at this car three months ago, a dealer in West Chester had it. It was pretty much all original, it needed a lot of "EVERYTHING'. There was no COA when I looked at it. The interior was nice but the dash was cracked and discolored. It has deep six 6x15 on it and the original steel wheels were there. Complete tool kit. It needed inner and outer rocker panels on right side, sail panel rusted, I believe battery gassing off. I did not see any accident damage. There were letters from owner complaining to Porsche about reoccurring problems, that was nice to see. I so wanted to wash it to see what was there. The dealer was a good guy and he let me look at it twice, nice as could be.

SMG 914’s old car! One serial number before mine. The restoration that Steve did in 1981 was top notch.

I have a euro 71 914-6, 001430082, for sale. 3.5 year nut and bolt restoration to museum grade, engine rebuilt as was everything else. Coa. 4.5x14 Fuchs by Harvey Weidman, interior by Autos International, original yellow/black. euro radio, new cinturato's as originally came on the car. Photos of everything form before, during and after. some can be seen at Daniel Mainzer on Facebook.
