After acquiring my bumpers to do the back dating, I found that the front ones take a beating , some of it is just stone chips and road debris , but much is from bumps etc, and so I set out to look for chrome shops are see where the rechrome pricing is at. so far nothing close here in South Carolina but I did find a shop up near Atlanta, in Snellville GA - Older Gentleman who has been in the business for 50 years , and has done a LOT of cars. his price was $600 per pumper. Now one of my front ones really needs some work. - its not rusted and its not warped, but it has lots of dents and small stuff so I can see this being more to work out those issues, but my back bumper is almost like new except for the fading, but the price was same-

Then Bob Bishoff(BigKatBob) gave me a lead on a company in Brainard MN. Keystone Automotive industries(www.northstarplating.com) . I sent them pictures and measurements, and my quote came back this morning at $428 each. 10-12 weeks out for finish. Seems reasonable, but was hoping for a bit less.

-- Anyone have any quotes or recent jobs? I can share more contact information on these as well.

That is a great deal at $428-- I'd jump all over that! Good chrome is becoming more scarce these days. I could have almost bought new ones for the price I paid .

What's the company / individual name in Snellville? I live very close and would like to check that out.
mepstein
I doubt you will find less than $400 in the conus.

if I were back in MN(my home state) I would - used to go up to BIR and go fishing up in that area for many years while growing up. - BUT I would have to ship it there- that's $100 each way so now I am over the $600 cost for Custom Plating in GA- I can take the 4 hour drive and take it up to Charles and go back and get it- also his turn around time is more like 6 weeks. Unless I find a place closer here is Savannah that's probably what I will do- I did find a shop in florida north of Orlando near Deland, Seminole Plating I think- I go by there next week, I might call and see what their pricing would be like, - also wonder if Joe (Porsche guy sometimes on here but wants to post about his ford truck just for S&G) would know anything about them?

EDIT- its Seminole Metal Finishing . Alamonte Springs

I can vouch for Keystone in MN they did my front bumper on my 914-6 and it came back perfect. I went through a friend at a local body shop and he gave me his cost plus shipping and I was under $400 total. So maybe try a local body shop and see who they use for their chrome work.

we use nester at the bumper shop in california, 250 per bumper does a good job. We tried the guy just south of 285 that some local shops recommended, took for ever and was 375. Job was not even as good

If its the bumpershop in LA, they have a couple nasty reviews on yelp, buyer beware. They do have some nice reviews though, maybe just a couple of mishaps? confused24.gif

I've also gotten a couple quotes around $600.
mepstein
Make sure you fit them to your car before you send them out.

Hard to imagine that with our strict environmental
laws they can even stay in business.

One of the guys used a place in the San Fernando valley in LA and put the bumpers up for sale here a few months ago. They looked very nice in the pictures. He paid $350 or so

The bumper shop with the mixed reviews is 800 feet from my shop in Inglewood
On my street East Beach Ave in Inglewood

Mark used them several years ago for motorcycle parts and he said they did a nice job.
The only thing I worried about was there door is closed some times and I drive by them each day.

Supreme plating on beach in Inglewood 330 e beach ave

Shipping is very expensive now

I hear there are very good platers in sandy UT
My bumper for the front of my 6 looks very good and Eric did the cutting and welding for the GT and it looks great

Check with Steve Tracy at

Advanced Plating in Nashville TN.

They do a lot of high end show car and street rod work.
