Full Version: When did Aase Bros. close?

Back in the 80's and 90's, I always saw Aase Bros. ads in VW&Porsche Magazine. Always wanted to go down to So cal and check em out but never did. Guess they met the same fate as Automotion (Sunnyvale), Beach Boys Racing, and VW&Porsche magazine for that matter!

Anyone get any good deals from the closeout?

Aase Brothers closed about 4-5 years ago. They still sell some parts now and then on e-bay. Nice NOS sh!t.

aase closed around 98 or so...he used to be out in the boonies and then condos surrounded him. Got tired of the bitching, got a little older and the land got real valuable....

Actually, Performance Products bought out Automotion, and closed the doors in Sunnyvale, moved them to So Cal. I've been to that shop a few years back. Automotion in name only. Their parts catalogue was second to none (quality of stock and always a concourse artistic Porsche on the cover)

Also, Performance Products has a 4WD side to support my hauler.

Beach Boys Racing was doing some great things in the 90's, but if are around, are a shadow of what they used to be. At least thats the way its seems since I don't get the ads when VW&Porsche mag turned into European Car.

Today, Parts Heavan Swap reminded me of the good ol days of Automotion meets.

It is Dave Aasse that sells the NOS stuff on the net...took the good stuff home before the auction....Goes to Germany and buys parts. Talked to him today at Pomona.

Don't know what happened to his brother Dennis.

Yard looked similar to that at the auction, but there were a lot of Mercedes around too. Most of the bodies were crushed, as well a a lot of other stuff as it had no interest at the auction.

Most of the 911's were cut in half, stuffed into containers and went to Australia, along with a shit pile of parts.

A lot had been sold prior to the auction also.

At the Pomona Swap meet? If it was, I heard that isn't as big as it was in the 90's, before ebay. I picked up a steering rack from 911 SC, complete with vented rotors and calipers for $200. Also picked up 911 SC flares for $150 set which went to converting a 912 to modern styling.

I got to go there once around 89 or 90, I think I still have their business card. To this day I have never seen more 914 (running or not) in one place. drooley.gif

They were really helpful the few times I used them, only they never let me wander the yard dry.gif

Pomona is almost dead for Porsche stuff....couple of vendors. but they all want platnium for their rust. The old diehards, PP, Glenn Sager, C. Thomas Woodward, Paul Bernardo, etc., have moved on (Paul lives in NV and Woodward is moving there). Chip Evaul passed on as we all know.

If you want VW shit, there's piles of it. And English is almost a second language.

Never went to the North end of the lot where all the domestic iron is.

I got to wander the warehouse at PartsHeaven today with my seven yr old. He was telling me there were plenty of parts there that could get my cars going. He seems to forget the money factor. But that was cool in these days of liability.

Oh Yeah....Joe Sharp and /L were there.....and I didn't call them.

After seeing what we saw, Glenn & I decided it will be a long time before we darken the parking lot again. It really wasn't worth the $6 parking and $8 admission.

I remember going there a few years ago and saw at least a half dozen 914s for sale. Not many cars for sale anymore and even less parts. Like Ron said, tons of VW stuff. The domestic end is kinda fun but takes all day to get through. The last time I was there I conted 4 different languages spoken!

There were 3 teeners this time...lowest was a V-8 at $8300, and two 2L priced at $10,000.....neither could you make a case for at that kind of money.

Couple of sharks, 10 assdraggers, 1 Bricklin..........I don't count the VWs.

The yard was NEVER in the boonies. Always right downtown. Had a grandfather clause so when they built the new condos across the street the owners had ZERO grounds for any complaint. Dave was involved in a monumental land swap involving a local body shop, an apartment complex, and his readiness to retire. He coulda stayed, but why? I see him regularly, and all is well. He is doing business as "Aase Sales", and carries a number of high quality product lines as well as some interesting NOS items. He will likely be at the GAF again this year. The Cap'n

The boonies as much as Anaheim WAS in the boonies....I'm not that much younger than you are and "I" remember Orange Groves near where he was.... NOW it's wall to wall condos.

When I bought the 3.0 for the "Rocket" from him he was getting complaints from his neighbors...they were second generation owners that were doing a letter writing campaign about his business.

That's my story...but hey I could be wrong,,,,, cool_shades.gif

Like I said, Dave closed because he WANTED to, NOT because he had to. There was in place a grandfather clause, and signs posted on the streets, allowing him to do what he pleased with the property. His brothers still have their racecar shop at the other end of the property ..............
BTW, Mikey, no oil tanks in evidence at PH, although we scored a number of other 914/6 parts, including a VERY nice set of heat exchangers ............................... The Cap'n

We were discussing it and he mentioned that the bitching was one of them....I handle airport, feed lot, farm and dump complaints from people who knew what they were buying and then have the balls to bitch....sorry, Charlie....they were there first.

We went to the Aase Bros. last days auction and filled up a trailer and two pick up trucks with all kinds of stuff. all for about a $1500. I've still got stuff I don't even know what it is! I have one box (prolly a 100) of New in the Porsche packages, internal shift rods for 901?, 915?, 356?, transmissions. Bunch of 356 oil seals I don't know what they for. Big box of old dirty clutch cable pullies. etc., etc...
Leamon built his turbo look Carrera from parts from the auction. We also ended up with 6 T4 motors. All in working condition. all sold already.
There was one guy there who bought one of the 356 shells from the yard for $25. (probably cost him $30,000. by now)

After Performance Products got done buying up the other cataloge companies, they got bought by someone called 4x4parts.com or something. I thought for sure it was bye, bye Porsche parts, but I was wrong. they never seem have what I need in stock but if you go into the showroom to buy they'll mail it to you for free when it does come in. And they Price Match with any other P-Car cataloge. Oh and 10% off for PCA or POC members. (not affiliated I just live close by)

Glad I didn't haul my ass outa bed for Pomona yesterday. I planed on going but the Tequila around 11:30 pm told me to blow it off... biggrin.gif

Guys if you want parts get yer butts up to Gary Emory's place in McMinnville Oregon for the Porsche campout the weekend of June 25. Gary is retiring and I'm hearing rumors you'll be able to get some GOOOOOD deals. His web site says he can't retire til he sells all this stuff. I mean, there are semi trailers FULL of 914 parts!!!!

Already did that once...not again...we got enough shit at Aase's...well...2 semis, and 10 guys and Superdutys for one week. Scraped most of it.

Oh, I bought as perfect a '70 914 body as you could want....$5......it's waiting for a six (and for it to drop off the DMV computer).

Randy and Dennis Aase have a new company called AASCO. They support Grand Am Porsche GT3's (driven by Patrick Long)
They are well. Their new shop is very close to their old one. They have CNC equipment and make some trick parts for racing (I have a few of them in my race car)
They did not disappear....they evolved smile.gif
