Full Version: Replacing Paper Heater Tubes with Steel Tubing

I'm considering having my 914 chassis dipped. One of the issues of dipping an early Porsche chassis is the paper heater tubes in the longs.

Here is my question. What is the purpose of using the paper heater tubes instead of steel tubing from front to back? Was it a cost saving effort? Do the paper heater tubes somehow muffle the air flow?

It seems to me that replacing the paper tubes with steel tubing solves the issue of them dissolving when the chassis is dipped.

I would like to go this route of dipping and e-coating: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...l=porn&st=0

Thanks for your feedback on this topic.

I believe it is a sound issue, even without a tube air should travel through the long.

Ah, than makes sense regarding heat retention.

Also, they would probably need to be coated prior to install as it technically is a plating process and the back side would never get covered (if installed)

Dont worry should you choose to dip & melt them into nothing.
They are available bye1.gif
