Full Version: FS 1976 914 with flared fenders

(I could cry as I have to type this.)
Purchased in 2004, after finding it sitting in a barn for an undisclosed amount of time. Ran and drove, got a new paint job (viper blue) and was well enjoyed for about a year before it fried the points (simple, cheap fix- I don't know why it was such a dibilitating problem). It ended up getting parked, again, and left to pasture. Fast forward a decade, it needed some help, and another two years of trying to find someone to work on it, that would actually get the work done....Recently dropped $4000, just in the floor pan. It is just heartbreaking, but we have to let it go. I am hoping someone will find it to be perfect for them and their situation. These 914 are too fabulous to let it sit a rot. Please, let this be your project!

For sale:
Would love to get about $6000, but willing to hear any responsible offers. Certified 'cash' (money transfer/paypal/cashiers check) no desire to let this drag out over payments. You get everything I got! Several are duplicates, so you have your choice of the better (interior parts: door panels, handles, knobs, carpet, arm rests, visors...)

that's not even close to a Chalon kit. It's a standard narrow body car with some sort of homemade flare things.

Can you tell I'm not a through and true 914 buff?
My dad had one when I was little, which is why I got this---Know a little. I will fix the post, thank you.

My advise is to keep as you obviously see something in it that know one else ever will. Just don’t put anymore money in it.

Sadly I don't have the time to work on it myself. So the option of putting no more money in it is not a viable one. And the thought of keeping it, and letting it just continue to go downhill doesn't sound like a doable option either. I would feel better knowing that the parts of it went to somebody else that could actually use it. So even if y'all aren't interested in the package is a hole. If you want any of the parts you see let me know.

I am sorry to say I do not believe $6K is close to what that may sell for. Unfortunately someone butchered the body with homemade flares and dropped the value by 75%.

That might be a great candidate to donate to a high school auto shop to let then try and return the body to stock and get it running.

Assuming the car still has a 2.0 in it, you should be able to recoup some of your money.

That certainly would be a difficult sell for that price. The reality is that you may actually make more money parting it out with al of the extra parts you have.

Of course that takes a lot of time also. But if the posted pictures document its current condition, with the flares, rust, and state of disassembly it is not a great starting point for many people.

Try showing some pictures of the $4,000. In pan work that was done recently.

Trying to try to find value in your car. Looks like the color was Laguna Blue (Lagunenblau) There is a color plate in the driver’s door in-between the hinges
Before. Try to show the rust areas in your car. Someone could strip it down and redo the whole thing and put stock fenders back on sell it as a 76 car. Super nice it could bring $20,000 or more but it has to be super nice.

I am sure that George at AA could change this back to a factory car but for how much. Towing to L.A. from FL cost a hot.

At the end of the day you could sell it at a no reserve auction with a starting bid of $3,000. Or?

It looks like it's at some kind of dealership. Get it up on a lift and take pictures of the undercarriage; floor pans (cabin, f & r trunk), jack points, right rear suspension mounts (inner and outer), also show the battery area inside the engine compartment, and the inside of the front and rear trunks.

If this is a solid chassis it could be worth the extra effort in your sale of the car.

If this car has several areas of rust perforation, and any rust has seriously damaged the structural integrity then this beloved 914 could easily fall in to the parts car category.

It can always be fixed, but it's easy to drop more in restoring than the end value.

The hell hole has perforation and the battery tray is missing. It would be nice to see the repairs made to the floors (and longs, if they were worked on).

I can’t really see the new pans but I don’t think it matters much. Engine and trans are out of the car. Hell hole and homemade flares. Everything is rusty and corroded. Everyone is sort of tip toeing around the fact that it’s a $1K parts car.

How is the windshield and glass in this car. I may be interested in it as a parts car.

agree.gif sad but true. Can it be fixed, sure. Will you be way upside down in value VS cost to restore, yep. I buy a lot of 914 parts cars ( I know everyone is shocked by that statement biggrin.gif ) even at $1k it would be a stretch if doesn't have sway bars, center console, alloy rims...... I looked through the pictures in your photo bucket account. You would be better off trying to sell off the extras you have, part the shell out and scrap the rest. Even then you may only make $2k ish.

I sell used 914 parts as a side biz and it takes time & effort to sell all the little bits to help make a profit.

Someone broke the passenger side window out of the car, but otherwise the glass is Good!
