Friends:
We have a unique opportunity on very short notice to learn about, remember, and honor Lt Thomas "Toby" Kelly - a native born Livermore resident who was lost in combat 74 years ago. His B-24 bomber "Heaven Can Wait" was struck and crashed in the Pacific Ocean in 1944.
On Good Friday this year, after 5 years of research, his B-24 was FOUND off of the coast Hansa Bay New Guinea.
His cousin Sandy has asked and given permission for our local collective residents, veterans, and local family to learn about, remember, and honor Lt Kelly at his memorial grave site in Livermore this Sunday May 27th.
We plan to meet at the Livermore Airport at 4:00 PM to see the vintage WWII air craft touring California currently.
https://www.collingsfoundation.orgTheir B-24 is the same airplane as Heaven Can Wait. There is an admission fee to tour the airplanes, but you can also see the airplanes for free from the airport grounds.
After seeing the airplanes, we plan to meet at 5pm at the St Michael's Catholic Cemetery located at: 3885 East Ave, Livermore, CA 94550 (5.4 miles away). We will tell his story, say a few words, and show our respect.
His recovery is in the news right now, and an article in the NY Times will be featured on Monday.
Enclosed are: the Project Recover Press Release, Picture of Lt Thomas Kelly, and recovery report.
