Don't know if this question has been asked b-4, but as to the T-4 411/412 are any of the engine parts interchangeable with ours? Also if any one knows how long of a run they had, and what displacement the motors were......just wondering. Thanks sunglasses.gif

Type 4 engine went from 1968 to 1982 or 1983.
Three stock sizes 1.7L, 1.8L and 2.0L.
Two Fuel Injection types (D-jet & L-jet) and a few different carburetor set ups.

411/412 are 1700/1800
The cases are the same except for the different app drillings of the cases. FI, dipstick, fuel pump, oil fill, etc.

Porsche was responsible for the development of the 2.0 crank and rods and is why they have the oddball 039 xxx xxx part numbers.

The VW heads will work, but 2.0 3 bolt heads are again 039 developed (modified) by porsche. The 1800 heads have the S deination with slightly larger valves.

There's a whole bunch of other minor details like smaller dish on pistons, etc.

I realize it's still under construction I only took a quick look and I may be reading it wrong, but I believe a few items are wrong.

The type 3 was always a Type 1 engine and never bigger than a 1600cc.
The 411/412 ended production in '72 (411, 1.7) and '74 (412, 1.8) and never had bigger than a 1.8 in the 412.
I don't think the 2.0 bus was available till 1976.

I didn't look at the rest of the list yet.

I have developed this over many years from various sources...if anyone has any improvements or anything to add to make it better, mark them up, post it or email it to me and I will update the worksheet.

Thanks to all who gave their input. It never ceases to amaze me at the wealth of combined knowledge stored in this club. I'm leaving my beloved car to my daughter when I pass on, and will tell her a great bunch of people of 914 World will help you just as they did for me..........
