I've been playing with the 2L in my 73 car a lot lately, mostly trying to dial it all in after converting back to FI. I recently noted the serial number and compared it to published records. It seems the GA engine should have the GA followed by 7 digits. This one only has 6 and doesn't start with two zero's like I thought it should. Thoughts?

My August ‘73 built 2.0 has GA006316, which is confirmed as matching numbers per the COA. It’s possible that your motor was swapped at some point with a later GA engine.

My bet is it's a factory (dealer) replacement case.
They came with no serial number, the wrench stamping it forgot a zero.

Herman had too many beers at lunch, we have seen this on the Karmann factory plates too.
