Ok if it doesn’t hold vacuum.
Not ok with open circuits.
I’m finding lots for the 1.7 and none for the 2.0
Are these things rare?

Yes, they can be hard to find, nearly all will need a rebuild. Even rarer is the 037 for the 73 2.0

Here are several from the same vendor on the Samba. I bought an 037 for my '73 a few months back from this vendor and will probably need to rebuild it.

I wouldn't buy one of these used when we have Jeff Bowlsby on this forum doing fantastic rebuilds of them. The one I purchased from Jeff about 6 months ago is functioning perfectly in my '74 LE. It is an -043 which seem to be harder to find.

I need to mention that good, rebuildable MPS cores in general are becoming more difficult to find.

I have not had any problem with coil discontinuity in the several hundred MPS I have come across, but that condition would obviously be problematic.

What I am sometimes seeing is heavy corrosion internal to the MPS and light corrosion occurring on the core 'plunger' and inner coil surfaces which intermittently causes the plunger to hang up and produce a rough signal. I am thinking that if the MPS is exposed to moist environments water or even water vapor is getting inside that cannot be seen until the MPS is opened up. So if you have some MPS in your stash - PLEASE - wrap them in plastic wrap to store them.

That, and finding core cases that can be made vacuum tight - finding leaky cases and other leak sources is very time consuming and sometimes a case is damaged beyond use.

As is my luck I have an open circuit in one of the coils. disassembled to inspect but cannot find the open. those coils have skinny wires! my housing is clean and serviceable and I have a new diaphragm to install but with an open coil.....
