The ones hanging on your bench are some home brew stuff... The ones on the car however, are the Euro version of the US driving light and use an H3 bulb, they're cool and rare-ish, probably a lot better for actual lighting than the US fog light version.

Thank you Sir!
I was at a Concourse last summer and a couple of guys were pointing at my fog lights and were bickering.
I'm deaf and read body language..
One was sure! and the other wasn't
I was with a few folks talking ,(sorta)
Couldn't really hear em and observed the two gentlemen,
I try to get away and ask these Gents, but....

I have notice they require certain bulbs, obtain a couple to replace the one burn out one
but have to remove the bumper to put in bulbs?
I knew then something was amiss.
Thanks again for insight.

Bottom lights are European driving lights. Never issued here but a few got imported. Interesting front bumper with 75-76 bumper pads.

I have a set, bought in the early 90s and kept in the boxes, part numbers 914 631 131 10. My lenses had fogged a little on the insides but the cleaned up easily. Not for sale beerchug.gif

You say slightly larger than the US version. Does that mean they do not fit the housings for the 914 US version?

Possibly yes in this case. With the stock front valence, there is a dimple in the top of the valence that lets you get a screwdriver through to the screw that holds the lens onto the body of the light. The lens can then be removed (with some difficulty) and the bulb replaced.

Alternately, the grille can be removed from the bumper with four screws, and the rest can be worked around.

But if you have a second pair of hands available, it is certainly easier to just remove the bumper to get access.

These lights definitely are larger diameter than the ones I am familiar with.

Just ordered a set from you in case I rebuild mine...thanks for the heads up!

These are very cool lights. Offer more light and fill out of the holes in the bumper grilles just a bit nicer. Definitely a detail, but a neat one.

What surprises me is how rarely I see them in the U.S. They sold a fair few Euro 914s that rusted into oblivion...would have thought these would have been harvested from those cars? And were they used on anything else, like a Benz maybe?
