I was going to buy a Jaguar F Type, but my Subie Powered 914 is so much fun I have decided to look at a boulevard cruiser instead of a sports car. I am looking at a 2005 Bentley Continental GT convertible with 11,000 miles. The car is perfect. Anyone have any experience with them? They are Volkswagen powered. Thanks

My dad has a Bentley. I think it’s late 80’s. Cool car. Very expensive to repair.

A colonoscopy would be a better experience.

$70k in repairs? Not to include warranty work? Struts that run about 1.5k each for just parts? But you'll be rolling, or sitting making zoom noises, in a Bently. Way cool. Sign me up for 2!

I've been told maintenance is a killer, hence the low price now that they have reached over 10 years old. Why is that significant? Most of the wearable parts are probably still original but wearing out, simple stuff like suspension, belts, hoses, etc, but on a car that costs a lot to keep up these things can add up quick.
It's like all the guys going out and buying the $10,000-15,000 996's right now thinking they are the smartest guy's in the world. One of these guy's was at my mechanic's last week with his new purchase, a $14,000 996. It was on the rack, my mechanic said his bill was up to $8000 and they weren't done yet.

Beautiful, very heavy car. All wheel drive works well. Great cruiser. Wonderful interior. Do a PPI and if it checks out, go for it!

Hey Ed-
Yes...PPI.
If you can afford repairs and maintenance, I say buy it and drive it like you stole it.
I drove in a 2007 several years back as a passenger and what a ride. Great looking interior to boot.

Fantastic cars, well made, but as others have noted expensive to maintain when things go wrong. That may be a long way off on a car (if it has history) with so few miles.
I'd personally not be overly scared of it provided you've called the Bentley dealer and can swallow their prices as part of the cost of ownership.
I have two 928s, however, so don't listen to what I have to say because I'm clearly insane...

So for $50,000 and maybe another $25,000 for some replacement parts, you got yourself a real cruiser mobile. Road trip!!!

I bought a 10 year old 50ft yacht in 2005. Great shape the day I took delivery. My best friend said I would need an attitude of not feeling bad if I was to take a $100 bill and burn it.
With this car, you better not feel bad burning 10 x $100 bills.

Cruising SCOTTSDALE in a Bentley would be fun, I had a 63 Cadillac Convertible, just want something nicer. I have a brand new GMC truck, great daily driver. It is the upside of being 56, divorced, and hopeful. Besides, the window sticker on the GMC was about The same.
The Bentley is intriguing, own it for a year, sell it, pay whatever penalty there is and move on to the next dumb idea.

Figure that half of the year the car is going to be parked because putting the top down would kill you, but the other half of the year putting the top down is going to make you feel like $1 million and be a total hoot.
If you can swing it and are prepared for the inevitable financial thumping, why not just have fun and try it on for size?

Hoovies Garage on YouTube bought one of these as a project car (coupe not convert) and had nothing but major issues with it (albeit it was an auction car with questionable history). I would steer clear personally... Lots of other great German highway cruisers out there that are a little bit more reliable. Not sure what your budget is but a used M5 or M6, S65, RS7, etc. could be a lot of fun for not too much money.

I feel confident enough in life not to need a car to get women, I like the Bentley cause it is stupid and fun, kind of like my 914. I am going to drive it this weekend and see if it lives up to the hype, if not off to something equally off kilter.
