Disassembled and blasted the pedal cluster
Qarl
Refinished the headlight motor assemblies...
Jeroen
Hey Karl,

I see you have the bronze bushing set for the pedal cluster
I put mine back together using that too, but after double-checking here on the BBS, I didn't use the roll-pin that comes with the set.
It's not strong enuf (several reports of it breaking)
Get the original roll-pin instead.
The factory part apeared strong enough to break my cheap ass benchvice when I tried pressing it back in place biggrin.gif

cheers,

Jeroen

wow!! blasting is the ticket!! how will you finish them?? i por15ed mine.

hey jeroen, are you talking about the roll pin in the weltmeister kit? it's tripled rolled! i thought the factory pins were NLA. where do you get one?

Jeroen
I just ordered one from my friendly P-specialist
Org.factory part, had no trouble getting it...

cheers,

thanks jeroen, actually, i was trying to get the pin that is in the rear on the tail shift tranny linkage, which seems to be the same size as the one in the cluster. PP said that it was NLA from the factory. hmmmm ........

Porsche Rescue
Karl, what did you do to "refinish" the headlight motor
and related parts?
Qarl
I bead blasted the light motor housings.

I replated the hardware.

I bead blasted, POR-15ed, and repainted the black disc. The plastic actuating arm can't be cleaned is permanently discolored.

And I cleaned the wiring harness.
Porsche Rescue
You're making all this up, right? You just bought new parts. lol2.gif
Qarl
NO... I'm anal bootyshake.gif retentive man.

I just want everything fresh on the car.

I bought 3 tubes of Clorox wipes and I'm cleaning all the fresh air ducts parts inside and out. They work good for that. You just need to plast them with some comressed air to get the lint off.

I'm making up lots of little tricks to clean things up..

The fresh air vents on the dash.... clean up nice in the dishwasher!

Degrease nuts and bolts with some orange cleaner, rinse in water, and dry on a wash cloth in your oven. (My oven has a convection fan, and a "warm" setting, that just keeps it about 130 degrees, so things won't catch on fire! You could also use a hair dryer.

Some of Brad's wisdom... Brake Cleaner is great for degreasing. and cleaning about anything (except plastic parts). Good for removing glue residue and tar residue!

If that plastic is the same as the targa latch cups, or tail light lens nuts; stick 'em in bleach for a day or two. Whitens them up quite a bit...
Qarl
Nope... I think the arms are supposed to be resin colored (sort of light amber). I think the dark streaks are from rubbing against the rubber seal for so mean years.

I tried bleach, Tilex, and even blasting... but it's permanently discolored.

I guess I could paint them... but they don't get seen anyways!

Half the crap I'm plating/painting, etc. will never be seen except for me.

Regards,

Karl

Qarl
I get this a lot...

"Honey, what are you cooking?"

"ummmm..... headlight trim!"
Brad Roberts
Another good "crap remover".. GOOF OFF.

B
Qarl
BTW... Goof Off is great for POR-15. Especially if you spray POR-15. It's GREAT for cleaning your paint gun and your hands before it dries.
Brad Roberts
That is good news Karl. I had NO idea Goof OFF would work with Por15. The race teams use it to get the bugs and the rubber marks off the cars.

Goof Off, No shit? I've been trying to find something.

Karl,
Do you submerge your gun parts, or clean individual parts, or what? Esplain...

Oh, turn bucket status? Jus wonderin'
Qarl
I poured the excess POR-15 out of the spray gun bucket and rinsed it out with Goof Off.

Then ran the Good Off through the spray gun to clean out the insides.

Then I joust sort of drenched the gun in the Goof Off (I've got a gallon can if it) and everything came out spotless!

It WON"T work on dried POR-15. Only time or a belt sander will take that off your hands.

Dave: I'll probably get to the buckets over this week or next weekend.
Qarl
Clean gun that had POR-15 in/on it.

Notice my hands... They were black for 3-4 days.

Oops!
redshift
Doesn't that dark stripe through the middle of that light colored 2x4 drive you nuts?

DO NOT rub Goof Off on your 914Club sticker!

It will remove the ink!!

btw, nice avatar Brad! LOL

karl,

i've got a couple of the metal arms if you want them.
Qarl
I'm not worried about the arms. If I want to, I can paint them beige.

But thanks for the info on the metal ones.
