I have a new battery tray from RD (purchased a year or two ago). Today I compared it to old battery tray and to the ECU holder and found a significant difference. Here is a pic of the two side by side.

The raised area with the hole is missing from the new tray. My car is a 73. Given the condition of the old tray, and the fact that I've owned the car for 33 years, the old tray is probably the original (though I notice that it doesn't have a hole on the front left corner of the tray for the bolt in that location. Is the practice to drill two holes and weld nuts on the ECU holder?

Looks like you have the option to just drill a single hole in the RD part.

I don't see mounting holes for the front of the bracket on either tray?

That's what I've been doing. Then using a SS socket head bolt.

I don't think RD manufactures these, there isn't a Made In Canada logo on the web page.
Pete can correct me if I'm wrong but I think its made by Dansk.
TravisNeff
Yes by Dansk, I have one I got from RD. It's black e-coated though.

Thanks guys. So seems like this is typical. I’ll add drilling holes and welding M6 nuts to the list.

Indeed it is made by Dansk.

I do believe there is two versions of the tray also.

This part has not been a huge priority to manufacture ourselves. There are more important panels that are not available yet that we will focus on.

yes, like the lower left outer wheelhouse... poke.gif

Seems like we run across this more and more everyday. The devil is in the details.
dr914@autoatlanta.com
THAT IS Dansk. Their rendition is not perfect, even the battery support does not have the weld nut attached!

Here is our part, the tooling from the old company Perfect Panels that we purchased years ago:

we actually make over 100 metal parts for the 914 now

I’d settle for new quarters at a reasonable price (and the left outer wheelhouse ;p)

I thought that all the sheet metal parts I see on your website were made by you.

Not everything. We do resell some other company's products

So I ended up using a bit of both approaches... I drilled a hole in the tray for the corner nut and I drilled a hole in the ECU holder and welded on a nut. I think it should work.

When I first started going to the RD open houses I saw quite a few painted panels in stock, the RD made panels are not painted.

Each and every year there's less painted panels and way more unpainted panels. RD has easily doubled the number of 914 panels in this time.
RD's shop is a fair size operation and the shear number of parts for 356, 911 and 914 is outstanding. Plus the number of press dies is quite the sight, these are not small, some must be 5+ tons alone. And as always there's a dozen new dies waiting in queue to be polished and put into service.

You ordered the right hand drive tray.

Those are made for the British market.
doug_b_928
I didn't know there was a difference, but that distinction was not made on the RD website so I guess that's what they had in stock...

FYI .... He is full of stromberg.gif. There never was a factory right hand drive version of the 914. All of the RHD 914s are conversions from LHD.
