The chrome trim on the rollbar and the front triangle support trim.

What is the real finish on these pieces?

Is it clear anodized?

I don't think it is just polished aluminum because it would have oxidized by now?

Or is it clearcoated aluminum?

Just wondering...

I think it is polished aluminum, then clear anodized. No clearcoat.

I think I've heard the term "bright dipped" used to describe the aluminum finish on these trim pieces.

Any more guesses?

Here's a question...

Anyone ever powder-coat these pieces?

A buddy of mine was in the Navy and had a set powdercoated on the ship. Warped them badly. But more careful heat application may have saved them.

anyone ever "straightened" a set successfully (show car quality success..not small dings success) ??

I will buy new... but I'm all for saving a buck or two.

Sorta related...I removed my winshield trim which is black and in great shape if someone local is interested in it !!!

It's anodized clear, you can remove it just like stripping wheels.

Brad, using thick leather squares (bout an inch) as pads with a brass ball peen, I have made a couple sets look very nice from beyond the grave.

It requires a very soft tap, like trying to crack an egg with a spoon... a lil harder, I did it by letting the hammer just fall on it, don't get into stretching..
