It a sad story that isn’t going to be told today, but I needed to replace my pistons and cylinders on the 3.0. So what is there to do with them. Sell them to some fool on eBay or craigslist?

I’m thinking maybe they could be the bases for some kind of art. Maybe a pen holder for my desk. Anyone got some original ideas?

I have an Type-4 cylinder for just that reason.

You could TIG in a base, Tie on some handles and install a liner and make a neat set of mugs. .5L a piece or a bit more since the piston never makes it to the bottom. That would make for an interesting Octeenerfest drink holder. beer.gif

Get a boat load of them and slip them over your mailbox post.

Use them as table legs

Make a chandelier out of them

Convert your car to an electric motor out of a Telse Modal S and use them to make the engine look like a radial.

Door stops for around the house.

Fancy ass boot scraper

Mortice and Pestle

Section them into pieces and sell them as gages for some kids ears.

Weld all 6 together, find an approbate fruit that fits in the bore and use it as a launcher. Back it up with a huge amount of air.

Get another case, heads etc..... Weld it onto the front of your existing case, add all the extras. Make it look like a 917 Engine sell it to Patrick Motorsports to install in their 917 clone, for huge dollars. Go buy a 3.6, go to LN and get some Nickies to make a a 4.0L and go and driving.gif

Sorry about your lose, always bad when engines go south.

I've seen Car Show trophies made from bits + pieces/rods pistons etc. and contrasting with the Wood grain of the troohy base; the end product is very cool ! I have band sawed pistons at the Pin area to make very cool cigar ashtrays aktion035.gif

3.0 six? If so it's possible to have them reconditioned.
mb911
I hole sawed in the center of some sc pistons then slipped the pistons into the cylinders and tack welded them together and then used as pencil holders.

Sorry to hear about your luck on this.

great cup holder when set on the passenger side floor.

Good luck with that. Am thinking you will come up with something. I just rebuilt the 911 and decided to just re-ring the pistons with the nikasil still looking good. We’re your pistons really worn? My micrometer said that mine weren’t at 70k miles.
mb911
I personally would look at refurbishment.
Mark Henry
$1200 to have them Nikasil plated and about the same for new JE pistons, so ballpark $2400 for a brand new set of 9.5 or 10.5:1 piston and cylinders.
Cheaper than a new set P&C mahles or nickies.

If you want I can see what price I can get this done for, PM me if interested.

For replating it doesn't matter if they are nikasil or alusil.

Below is my set 3.0 with 10.1:1 new RSR style Mahle pistons
Around 4-5 years ago this would have been a $5K+ set, that I did for $2600.

EBS

agree.gif if you have another set already EBS buys core cylinder sets.
I think EBS and just about everyone else uses Millenium for the cylinders.

Krieger
EBS did mine. Millennium was the name one the box when then were shipped back to me.

It can get a bit tedious out there with the ice bergs hunting the whale. So the men would carve scrimshaw. Apparently they mistook the pistons for teeth.

Going with the same engine builder?

I really hope to have one of these in my garage one day. Collect enough parts and you can do it!

I've got a disassembled 2.7 I picked up for cheap that would be perfect:

On a similar note, I have 2 pistons that I am slightly stumped with what to use them for.
Liking some of the ideas so far but open to others

I Started recycling old tranz parts into cool stuff. I needed a pool cue rack, so here ya go.

Here’s an easy way to fill your engine with metal bits and damage nearly all the lubricated parts. Put a gear on backwards and have the chain rub against the case.

ouch. I was wondering why you needed to overhaul a fresh engine.
