I came across this when I was building my a 2270 in the Stone Age.Tech bulletin

While trying to unearth it again, i found this thread on TheSamba Samba oil grooves.

Looking for informed comment.

It has come up from time to time, I do it on all T1 and 4 engines, sort of a poormans piston squirter. It will throw a bit of extra oil on the back of the piston.
Cut a notch aimed at the rod small end, don't over do it, about a .020" notch with a triangle file will do the trick.

Milling it would be the more precise, but working it slow with a file does an acceptable job.
