The rubber between my windshield and dash is hard and cracked. Windshield and dashboard are fine. Is it possible to replace the rubber without removing the windshield or dash?

No windshield has to come out.
Old part has metal clips, new rubber part doesn't.

The answer to if the windshield needs to come out is , depends on who's it is.

The factory has a metal clip that i was never able to get fully engaged back on the seam it sits on. Even using a custom toll to install (paint mixing stick), I could not get it uniformly installed. So I made a version that has spring designed into the part. It's much easier to install.

Note for install - I notch the shape of the pillar on the 1st side I install, then cut about 1/4 longer than I think it needs to be. Installation begins with both sides at the pillars and walk the seal to the center. If it's too long, keep trimming between fittings until it does fit, it will actually over center and pop into place, making a perfect seam at both pillars as they have some give.

When installed they look uniform like they should.

I just ordered the rubber so I’m going to give it a try.

You can get the rubber seal installed with the windshield in place. The aftermarket seal from 914 rubber does not contain the metal insert that the original factory seal had. You can push it in place with a little help from some silicon spray and a plastic trim tool.

Depends if your windshield is glued to it. Mine is original and pulled out fine. Couldn't remove the dash frame with it in, rubber was too hard.

Be ready with some dental tools before you start this. I just removed the old one and it was a mess. It came out in a million little pieces. I had to pull the metal out with needle nose pliers and it came out in small pieces as well. You have to be careful not to crack the windshield or damage your dash. I just did it so it can be removed but be ready!! No fun! I will let you know how the 914rubber version goes in.

If the seal is old and brittle, it will come out in dribs and drabs. You'll find little pieces of it all over your car. It can be done it the glass in situ, I've done it three different ways. Way back when, the first time I tried this, I cracked a windshield getting it out. I did another car with the windshield in successfully, and the last time I did it on Underdog, I did it while the windshield was out.

I recommend option #3, but be careful when you do option #2.

Used a dental pic to remove the old cracked rubber seal and metal clips. Used a paint stick to install. Windshield was not removed. 914 Rubber is the best replacement. Coat the seal with 303 Aerospace protectant before you install it.

Picked these up at Harbor Freight yesterday. Small but worked perfect to get every last piece of the old rubber out.
