I know the Garage gets the most exposure, so I figured I'd start this here.
What would you want to ADD to 914club to make it better?
Let's not make suggestions on format changes, or things to move around. The club already works fine...
My suggestion...
1. How about a chat feature? It can't be THAT difficult. Pretty please?

Theoretically, the classic threads are what the "how to" is supposed to be.
I'd agree that a collection of articles on how to do common tasks, or answers to commonly asked questions, would be a good thing. The primary hurdle is the content. I've started some in my blog, and I'm asking others to review what I've written and make suggestions and corrections. If anyone wants to do the same in their blogs, we can (eventually) edit it all into a useful set of articles that could be posted into one special "answers" blog, or a set of threads (perhaps even posts in the classic threads).
Are blogs searchable with the current software? It doesn't look like they are, in which case a set of threads would probably be better.

I remember someone talking about a map showing member location awhile back. I thought that would be cool but I don't know if it's doable. maybe something like a regional list showing who is in what area.

I don't think there should be an off-topic or on-topic chats. Just a chat room. For 914club members only.
Somebody steps out of line, then their membership is removed... abusers could be reported to admins.
Or... you can have chatroom priviledges if you have XXX number of posts. This would prevent new people from just creating random IDs and posting spam and crap to the chat room.
Most chat rooms also have an Ingore feature... so if you don't want to listen to somebody's BS, you just put them on your ignore list.
Easy enough.

You already have the power my gravity defying friend.
Click on "My Controls'. Then look under 'Options' and go to 'Board Settings'. The last of your choices on the page that comes up will be for 'Number of topics to show for each forum page'. You can choose 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, or 100. The defaut amount is 50. Don't forget to click the 'change my account' button when you are done.

I remember the old 914 site with the chat room. I was told that it was Brad's old site. It was awesome. It was never really busy, but then again that was several years ago. Judging by the activity on this site, I would think it would be very busy.

360 degree PPI model of a 914. Point and click on a body section and you're given the what to look fors. Include photos of good and nasty longs, heck holes etc.
360 degree common repairs model of a 914. Point and click on a body section and you get common problems and solutions, links to classic threads with details etc.
I guess my wish list leans towards additional technical data with member associated photos and threads.
Same idea could be focused on V8 swaps and race cars etc.

the 4x4 forum i belong to has forums set up for:
General Chit Chat - an obvious one
Staging Area - to plan upcoming rides
Trip reports - to discuss the outcome of those rides
general 4x4 - to discuss anything 4x4 related
and some others. the only problem with that site is that the moderators are a little fanatical, and will lock your acccount if you post in th wrong forum.
i think if the site sould be set up similarly, then we could find things we are looking for a little easier. The staging area would do away with having so many nailed topics on top. and the trip reports sections could beused for pictures of 914 functions or c ar shows. my .02

Every once in a while, I see a thread that's really great and its on something I know I'm going to want or need in the future, but it's not something I need right at the moment. A particular repair or upgrade or something. It would be nice to have a feature like an "Add to Favorites List" or something. A favorites list that would follow my login whether I log in from home, work or the inlaw's house. Ya know? Coding it can't be that hard...
Thanks for all the work you guys have already put into this site!

I was gonna respond earlier but being a newbie I figured whatever I could ask for has already been asked for but - here it goes - how about a links page - just tonight I was guided to HPH - I don't know who HPH is so I had to ask. Also is it possible to make a field on the members page or allow a search by state so I can see wo is nearby me in VA?

Would it be that much of an invasion of privacy to list city and state for each member? That way local events, help or inspections would be easier to come by.

There is a Vendors Forums where they are last time I looked. Sorry, I didn't type in all the phone numbers and stuff for you, I am lazy.
Their full name is High Preformance House in Redwood City, Cali
Rich Bontempi is the owner/racer dude....
He gives me a deal if I say he is nice.

Ok, this is what I have always wished we had at the 914Club. Something like this...
http://www.early911s.com/gallery_cars.phpI go there all the time, just because I love to look at all the variations, and all the colors. Perhaps we could do it where each member can submit a single photo of their car that they are most proud of (hopefully it is not on blocks). I think it would be great especially for newbies. I know we have the "show us your car" thread, but it takes forever to navigate through the whole thing.
