Who is the go to company for classic car insurance these days?

Grundy turned me down as all forms of rally (including TSD) aredisalowed. As is autocross.

I’m hoping to drive the car soon, but I need insurance that will permit me to actually drive the car, not just leave it in my garage.

Hagerty but you must store it in a garage.

Rates where good and they do not care if your car runs or not. Ins for your parts as well.

Have you checked with Hagerty? Not sure what their policy is on rally/autocross

Any racing org is going to carry ins for it's participants, you don't need to mention that to your carrier, just call it "for fun on weekends".

We got agreed value coverage through State Farm. It's a little more expensive than Hagerty, Grundy, or the other collector car insurance places, but it doesn't restrict the mileage or usage.

They had me get an appraisal from a specialty shop that handles 914s, and they took pictures of the cars.

Going to have to redo the insurance on Igor once he is back on the road. That motor will raise the value of the car.

I have auto owners for agreed value.
My insurance guy (who is my friend) said that auto owners lets me go in and out of active coverage whenever I want, whereas some other companies make you keep full coverage even if it's in storage.

He's my friend so I never checked other companies.

Have both 914's with Hagerty for stated value. Don't autocross them anymore but surprised that would matter. A regular parking lot autocross isn't "racing."
Another advantage depending upon where you are- in parts of AZ (Maricopa county) you're exempt from smog testing if you have collector car insurance.

I've been really happy with Chubb. And surprisingly inexpensive considering Chub's reputation for having the best service and most accomodating adjusters. I pay about $ 400 per car per year. Restricted to 3K miles annually.

Even had a claim. A dumb one, but they paid it. Our youngest rolled one of the three classics out of the garage to get at my truck while we were gone and his airhead ex girlfriend who is now an escort in New York, (No shit) used her foot to stop the driveway roll. I found out because American Classic called me to tell me they were paying her medical claim. blink.gif

seems the Insurance folk are changing coverage terms frequently

Hagerty has clearly discovered they can delete some what they used to cover & now charge extra for the way you "use" (or not) the car

kind'a like trying to get fire insurance on your house in sunny CA ,, yesterday you had it, today not

Any exposure that isn't considered normal, and racing/auto-x isn't, will be off limits.

Track insurance is a good and from reports it would seem every knucklehead with a new GT3RS should have it. A few friends who "were" great instructors will not even consider getting in one of these with a neophyte.

Recent incident at a "northern track event. Total loss.

I have had Hagerty for years on the 914. They will also charge you less if you are working on the car and it is not driveable. I also have two other cars insured with them. We talk about agreed to valve just about every years, as the value has been going up. You can get track day insurance through an affiliate of theirs.

Unless the autocross is being held in some place, that would cause damage to your car, I don't think it would be necessary.

Watch out for track days, though. Insurance companies are now paying track personnel to film cars at tracks. A friend of mine was stupid. Took his Audi TTRS to a track day and did not take out track insurance. Then he was stupid enough to let a "friend" drive. Guy wrecked car. My friend tried to claim insurance and the insurance company had film of him at the track.

Like others mentioned, check out your regular insurance carrier.

I have agreed upon value through my regular insurance (ERIE). Full coverage, no mileage restrictions. I think it runs around $300 a year...plus I got a multi-vehicle discount.

The process was simple, they sent out an appraiser to look at the car. The last time I requested a value increase, they didn't even send anyone out.

How's it looking for driving it to Jim's?

I have Hagerty for all my classics and wouldn’t go anywhere else. Yeah, they have some restrictions, but the culture of that company makes me want to stick with them.

I drove my 914 on 60 degree December day. A 16 year hit me. Her insurance paid for the repairs but Hagerty dropped me. They said I can't drive a 914 in Cincinnati in December.

$70 for each one after that.
agreed coverage.
3K miles a year but if I want more, its $5/thousand miles.

I don't take it off for the winter because you never know what might happen, even parked in my garage.
