My driver's side sun visor has a habit of working itself loose from the outside (left) mount.

I've remounted it several times, making sure the pin in set all the way into the mounts on both sides (and the square post properly oriented). But, if I tighten the screw holding the pin in tight enough to prevent the visor from drooping, moving the visor up and down sloooowly works the pin out of its mooring.

Anyone else had this problem and has found a fix?

Just tighten the screws enough to move the visors with hand pressure but enough resistance to not flop down when you hit a bump.

yup - that's what I've been doing. It takes a while (a few weeks) but eventually the pin works itself out and the visor falls in my lap.

It seems to me that the pin is "walking" it's way back into the visor, largely because the square end in the mount causes the pin to spin in the visor.

I wonder if rounding out the mount socket would help...?

If that is the case, you need to replace the visor mounts or super glue the shafts into the mounts.
Early cars have chromed shafts later cars have black plastic same as the mount.

Do the chromed pins work better than the plastic ones? I am hesitant to super glue anything in for such permanency

I had the same problem. I made new pins with a shoulder so it cannot move much axially.

Is the pin coming out of the mount or the visor? Pin should be stuck in the mount and the visor is too wide to fall out.

What Chris said. If the mounts are in their proper location and screwed down, if the pins are in their mounts then the pins are too long to let the visor fall off the round end of the pin. My guess is that you’ve got the pins so far into the visor and the pins are coming off the mount.

Try this. Put the outside pin in the visor, leaving only an inch or so sticking out of the visor. Hand tighten the screw to hold it the pin to the visor. Put the inside pin in the visor almost the entire length of the pin, leaving only an inch or so sticking out of the visor. Hand tightenthe screw for that pin. Lift the visor with the attached screws into positionon the mounts. You may need to loosen one of both screws in order to get the square end of the pins to enter the mounts. Push as much of the square end of each pin into its respective mount as you can. Remember, the square end needs to seat into the square area in the mounts. Once you’ve done that tighten the screws on the visor until the visors don’t flop.

I do have the early chrome pins.

Rob - that is exactly how I am mounting the visor.

Chris - the pin is coming out of the mount... pushing itself back into the visor. the flipping up & down of the visor slowly pull the pin in.

So, are the pins normally permanently glued into the mounts and mine are just broken?

I had this same issue, and ended up buying some new ones online. They were solid plastic so I run the risk of snapping the pin, but they haven't come out of the visor since I went to a solid piece. I don't THINK they are glued in originally, but my car was over 40 years old when I got it.

I have this same problem. Am thinking of gluing a short piece of black tubing over the each pin in the void between visor and bracket. That will then create a shoulder to prevent the pin migrating into the visor.

If you don't see glue residue then it was press fit. None of mine have come apart to know for sure. Sounds like a dab of glue is your solution.

I used epoxy to attach the metal pins to the mounts and now I can tighten the visor screws so the visors don't fall down.

I would check for lubricant in the visor, use a q-tip to clean.

1/8" roll pin/spring pin. Drill through the bracket and the sunvisor pin, push in spring pin that you've cut to length, never have problem again

I have super glued the pins in. We replaced the center mount in Betty's car last year. I glued a set of metal pins into it when I got it. No problems since I did that.

Most of the sun visors are slightly warped, so the pins move up and down a little each time you move the sun visors. I have actually considered getting some steel rod the same size as the pins, and running it all the way through the sun visors. Trim the rod to the correct length and file some flats on both ends. Once installed the sun visors can't come off because of the fixed rod length.

See my post 11 above. All works well - tube is a very tight press fit over OEM shaft. About 6-8 mm long, two per visor. Added a washer between tube added and where that would otherwise rub on sun visor material. Used thin plastic tubing (like the stuff I use for break bleeding).
