Hit a road block with my cooling system.

I have an overflow tank (Volvo S70 unit) with 2 hose fittings. On the Volvo the smaller one on top would go to the top of the thermostat housing.

Larger bottom one goes to backside of the motor. (hot side?)

How are people plumbing their expansion tanks?

(Radiator up front)

Thanks

Small hose is the top of the motor, hot side. It's where the air bubbles come out. The large line goes into the cold side coming from the radiator. The cold water sucks the hot reservor water through and thus it's a recirculating system.

As I'm sure you know the reservoir should be higher than everything else.

Also helps to have a petcock on the radiator to bleed that. I normally open the petcock till water comes out, close it, and fill my reservor and keep it full as the system warms up. After that it's good and will self purge.

Mine is plumbed (bottom fitting) to a T fitting on the pump inlet side, The top fitting is plumbed to a T in the outlet side of the pump. This creates a self bleeding system to remove air.
