After sitting overnight with the windows up I recently detected a faint gas smell inside the car. Everything looks dry topside in the front trunk, nothing wet or excessively gassy under the dash, and under the car is dry. Any ideas where to look? I have no idea if the gas line has ever been replaced and wouldn't know how to do it. Any suggestions would be great.

Probably time to replace the plastic fuel lines in the tunnel and also any soft fuel lines in the engine bay and on the fuel tank. Also check the gas cap gasket. I got stainless lines for the tunnel from Tangerine Racing.

Gas cap gasket likely dried out....very common.

Good place to start. Easiest and cheapest.

Thanks, everyone. Much appreciated. I'll check the gasket first. How difficult to change out the fuel line through the tunnel. This is new territory for me.

Check the gas cap. Then check that the filler neck/vapor expansion tank assembly on top of the fuel tank is tightly bolted to the tank. I have had gas seep from this area on my 76 in the past. The small hex head bolts holding this can be tough to access. Thin wall sockets will help.

Surprisingly its more probable its a rubber line yhan the plastic.with the ethanol in the fuel being increased I had fuel lunes (rubber) fail on 2 cars this year.
