First time in over 10 years of ownership.
Heading home from the auto parts store, and engine just stopped firing.
No place to pull over, but fortunately I was going fast enough to drift to a safe spot.
After poking around for a couple of minutes, an old timer pulled over and offered to help.
"Dont know much about them fern cars, but do you need any help?"
Yes, could you give me a ride home?!
Got home, hooked up the trailer and went to get her.
She would fire up a second or two, then bog down and die.
Almost like something was in the tail pipe.
Will check for spark, but...
It "feels" like a fuel issue, so tonight I start looking at the fuel pump.
FI is loooong gone, after market fuel pump with EMPIs.

at least with carbs it is an easy fix!

Are you out of gas?

Check FI trigger points for oily residue.

Sounds like fuel.

I had a similar issue and my fuel tank had moved and kinked a line. Not a likey problem but it kept me stumped for a long time.
dr914@autoatlanta.com
that happens, every thing is fine until the fuel gets hot heating up the high pressure rubber line under the tank, folding it over and killing the engine. Wait a bit, the hose unfolds and you just drive off. Moral is to not make the lines under the tank too long and when installing no sharp bends

Only getting 2.1V to the fuel pump.
Using the stock wiring and jumped one of the FI terminals to ground.
Been working fine for ~8 years.
What could have happened?
Might take 12V directly there if need be.

Fuel pump relay?
How do I jump it out?

Fuel pump relay?
How do I jump it out?

Whats the input voltage to the relay?
Did you try swapping the relay?
Is the relay making proper connection at the board?

Jumping the relay itself is pretty easy just a matter of inserting a wire in the relay socket between the 12V pin and the pin that runs to the pump, but not sure why you would want to as the ground wire you have in place place has it activated all the time.
BK911
Ok, if I am reading the wire diagram right...
Term 86 input to fuel pump relay gets its power from term 87 output from power supply relay?
Tdskip
Might it be worth just temporarily running a good source of 12 V to the pump to see if that takes care of the issue before you start any other electrical work?
Spoke
Check out the schematic of the relay board below. For the fuel pump, If you want to run the fuel pump continuously even without the key ON then jumper pin 30 to 87 of the fuel pump relay. Careful as pin 30 is connected directly to the battery; no fuses and always powered.

You can try swapping the fuel pump relay with the heater fan relay on the end of the fuse panel.

Nice wiring diagram. I've never seen it before.
Spoke
Also check the 25A fuse and make sure both sides of the fuse and the spring clips are clean. Fuel pump power goes through the 25A fuse.

May seem kinda dumb but check the fuel filters. Old system may be clogged and would explain the start then stop issue...K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid)
BK911
Fixed it!!
It was the power supply relay.
So fuel pump power goes through a fuse and two relays!!

Trouble shooting guide:
Check for 12V at pump. Zero volts!
Check fuse. 12V on both sides.
Check power relay. 12V at pin 30. 0V at pin 87.
Replaced relay and now have 12V at fuel pump.
Drink beer.
Repeat step 5.
