What is the best way to clean carbon from the valves and heads of a 911 engine?

B12 carb clean and a light wire brush, or abrasive (bead) blasting(what the shops use)...

glass bead.....doesn't remove metal...just deposits

take it out and run it hard...w/ some emissions cleaner in there, works every time..oh off the car. Soak it in cider.

With the heads on or off the car?

I dunno bout air coolers... but we used to dump a gallon of hot soapy water down the hole on V8s with the pedal down pretty far...

POW! POW!~ exhaust sized chunks.

Yep, done that. It's kinda' fun.

When I was working as a "test fuel additive rater" in the Test Fuels Additive Lab at Chevron for a couple of years, I learned that the quickest "clean up" additives were the ones with the highest percentages of Techron/Techroline. There was a point of diminishing returns.

Yes we did test other competitors additives but there was only one better than techron at that time. Amoco "Clear" was #1 back then. Only sold back east.

Shifting gears..........
Glass beads are great as long as they are COMPLETELY removed from the heads once blasted. They have the potential of being very nasty if there are residual beads.

The "One bottle and pass" stuff does work.
My old '72 Chevelle appreciated it and so did I.

I use these pads made by 3M they have them in green and white. They are 2 in dia. and clean carbon and gaskets like crazy.
