So yesterday we bought a 2001 Audi TT. It's in really good shape, garaged all its life, etc. Has 49,000 miles. Its the 225 HP version, with Quattro all wheel drive, 6 speed manual transmission. The previous owner put on a set of BBS wheels and brand new Pirelli Pzeros. Pretty sweet for a daily driver... And a huge improvement from the damaged 1990 gray Toyota Camry she was driving.

Just got a call from my wife who was in a panic. She was stuck in the middle lane of 405 in West LA and all of a sudden the clutch gives out! So there she is unable to move with cars whizzing around her. Luckily a CHP pulls over and manages to get traffic stopped and pushes the car (which now only goes into neutral) to the shoulder. AAA is there now and is putting it on a flatbed. So its going to an Audi dealership near us where we get to be raped. Oh the fun of owning cars. barf.gif

Her TT IS great.

Other than her clutch thing...But I'm not ready for that!

Sorry to hear about it Tony. I told you to talk to her about all that street racing she was doing. No wonder the clutch fried.

Tony,

Wasn't the error code you got related to a clutch or tranny thingy? idea.gif

I'd rather have the bus in the background............The engine could have been dropped on the side of the freeway, clutch issue solved and repaired for less than 100 bucks with a mzx of 10 tools needed for the job......

Modern luxury does not supercede vintage simplicity!

Man what IS it about Audis? They are such fine cars, but I see more fairly new Audis broken down on the side of the road than any other car! A few years ago a friend finally got out of his POS Escort and bought his firts brand new car..a loaded A6.

He had so many problems:
AC quit--big deal on NC in the summer
Clutch or tranny freaked out betwen home and Atlanta, couldn't go past 2nd gear
electric oustdie mirrors went haywire
all of this and more in the first 6 months of ownership.

Don't get me wrong, I LIKE Audis, and the TT is cool. I would drive an Audi if I thought I could afford it. I think Audi makes the best wagon on the road. But when I commented to my mechanic (who drives an A8 that he got at auction for $7,000) that Asian cars don't act like that, his response was "why do you think I don't work on Asian cars? They don't break, no money in it".

I don't understand why, in 2005, a new car (especially one that costs like an audi) can be such a heartbreaker.

The upside with this TT is, it coulda been driven by a granny with a fulltime clutch foot who jut wore the cluth out prematurely.

Oh and Kudos to the CHP for pushing her off by hand and tearing up that sweet car with his buddy bumpers.

Haha. We got our loaded Grand Caravan (Atlantic Blue! w00t.gif ) beginning of June. It's what my wife wanted (she loves it wub.gif ).

Let's form a club!

Anyway. It's not a bad vehicle despite the un-cool stereotype. And I don't care for SUV's.

Anyway, don't be too embarrased, you aren't alone. wink.gif

I feel your pain....

We bought a '05 Honda Odysey EX Leather. It's one pimpin mini-van.

My wife is in denial... First she turned 30 this year, and now a mini-van.

That TT is deffinatly a beauty, but It looks like audi's reputation hold true smile.gif. I've got a 93 audi 90 and it's wonderful car as long as nothing breaks, because if it does get out the KY because it's going to be brutal. I had the whole cooling system go out in it about 20,000 miles ago and once the ignition switch went to crap and none of the power accessories would work during a hot day in seattle, that was a nigtmeare. In my opinion it seems that audi trys to be to revolutionary with what they do and it end's up having a lot of problems that the consumer has to deal with. It's like that with every new idea. The BMW iDrive for example was a nigtmear when they first put it in the 7 series. All kinds of electrical nightmeares that many times forced the dealers to buy back cars. Audi seems to do similar stuff but in different ways. I was told that the A8 has some sorta of special vaccum system that locks and unlocks the doors, I don't even wan't to think about what it would be like to replace that. Anyway beautiful car, but it comes at a price smile.gif.

Nothin wrong with a Mini-van (as long as I don't have to drive it everyday). biggrin.gif

My wife loves hers.... she won't let me get rid of it. I offered to buy her a new one. Still won't get rid of it. 99 Mercury Villager Estate with 83K on it. Still in pretty good shape. dry.gif
scottb
glad to know i am not the only minivan victim here... beerchug.gif

i gotta admit with the seats folding into the floor there is more useful space for hauling stuff than my full size bronco had (traded in on the minivan).

wife is happy and it is a good kid/family hauler so i can't complain.

i get to drive the subaru legacy wagon that was my wifes car.

besides, i can be cool in the teener right?

At this point I'm wishing this car was a minivan! Still waiting to hear back from the dealership, but I'm sure its going to suck.

My wife actually wanted this car, and I was hesitant about it, knowing the Audi's aren't exactly the hallmark of reliability. It had been well cared for and garaged most of its life, always factory serviced, etc., and we had a PPI done on it, so we did what we could, but I guess its still an Audi...

I suppose I will have to find a factory service manual somewhere and start learning the ins and outs of this thing. But then, we got a newish car so I wouldn't have to work on it. Bad choice I guess. dry.gif

TonyAKAVW
Well, the news from the dealer is good and bad. The good news is theres nothing wrong. The bad news is, the clutch went out yesterday and now its working fine. I think when we get the car back I'm going to have to take a look at it myself and see whats going on.

So I guess we got a carwash and complimentary Dodge Neon for a day for $120 !!! SUCH A DEAL!! biggrin.gif
