Recently the brake fluid reservoir started going empty in a night or two.
Today pulled the master cylinder that was only 3 years old to the month.
Started the day by pouring some fluid into the reservoir then watching for the magic drip to arrive. It appeared at the front grommet and was flowing quite quickly. After removing the m/c I pulled out the grommets and inspected for proper seating from the last install and all looked good. This means that it was simply the rubber had shrunk enough to allow the fluid to pass. Maker Uro.
I replaced it with the 914 Rubber ez install m/c that I had purchased during the group buy.
Went in WAY quicker than the last time but it still is very tight work.
Tomorrow comes the dreaded bleed.

Imagine if that seal had failed when you needed it the most, consider yourself lucky it happened in your garage ...

Actually the need to give a couple pumps made me open the hood as it had been sitting for too long.
An upstream leak probably would not cause a sudden failure.

Did you use the metal washers under the brake line, inside the grommets.

I also had a URO MC fail within a few months several years ago. I pitched it and bought the more expensive ATE. No issues since.

There is a reason I made these. I too had the experience and returning it was like pissing in the wind.

Even the ATE units are not infallible,

I had one fail in less than 1500 miles. you would have good pedal at first hit but then it would slowly go to the floor. release and hit again good brakes for a bit then slowly go to the floor.

checked everywhere for leaks … none. replaced with another ATE unit and so far so good for 2500 miles.

Another vote for the 914Rubber master cylinder:

I installed mine before WCR, and have put over 500 miles a week on it since then. Best brakes since I bought the car, and I don't expect any problems In the near future.

The amount I drive my 914 means I have another 6 years!
