Full Version: Removing bumpers form door strikers

I'd like to have my door strikers replated and assume I need to remove the rubber bumpers to do so. I thought they would simply slide out of those slots at the top but even after lubricating, they are fighting a lot harder than expected. I don't want to risk tearing off the mounting posts so thought I'd see if anyone has done this and has any tricks.

Also, the factory shop manual mentions replacing the rubber bumpers if they are worn, but I don't see a separate part number for them in the PET. Anyone know? Mine are in good shape but it would be good to know if replacement is an option.

99% of the time they will break off due to age. They are the same ones used on late Beetles and VW Type 3. At one point reproductions were made by West Coast Metric, might check with them.

Yes! and they provide the VW part # and I see lots of places to get them. Added them to my CIP1 wish list. The only one I found on West Coast Metric was the screw-on style.

Thanks guys! thumb3d.gif
