Full Version: Exhaust Bolts... 1 or 2 per Cylinder?

The heads on my 914's 1.7 motor was rebuilt by the PO and I have the task of installing it in the car. All four exhaust ports have only one threaded bolt and a threaded hole.

Should there be two threaded shafts and two nuts per port or is there one threaded shaft and one nut plus one bolt (for the enpty threaded hole) for each cylinder? Seems odd there wouldn't be "two of the same" but photos in the Hayne's Manual show only one threaded shaft per cylinder also.

There is two studs per exhaust port. I'd go over the work of the PO real closely if something like that was overlooked.

Stud == "threaded shaft".

Two studs per cylinder, zero bolts. One special copper-coated flanged exhaust nut goes on each of the studs.

Dave,

Tried looking for the exhaust studs at Pelican but couldn't find them.

Jake Raby said he ordered 2,000 of each size (there are two different sized studs)

ask him for some....

Or phone the Sales staff at Pelican. Not everything we carry can fit into the catalog...
