I'm told that there should be a 914.XXX.XXX.XX type part number on these, but all I can see is the VW logo cast into the lower control arm along with some other characters I can't read.
can anyone clarify or provide guidance please ?

after checking one of my 911 type struts I was thinking that the part numbers were under the top water shield, but no luck there either. looks like a false alarm. (odd that they have those camber adjusters on top... and came from a buddy with a 914 & 911)

It could be that factory installed struts had the numbers, and spare parts did not; or vice versa.
