I realize it's a terrible picture, but I'd love help trying to reproduce this decal that is on my 1.8 liter engine.Click to view attachment

That's what I need, thanks.

if we can get up a group of 20 we can make it
we have the regular 1.7 1.8 valve adjust sticker along with the 2.0 but not this late 1.8 one

Thank you George, but that would be a tough one for me to guarentee.

If somebody wants to send me a final copy of the graphic… I can print these on adhesive vinyl about 3mil for about $.79… Maybe sell for two bucks? I have ink that should hold up for 10 years or more.

The one on my ‘75 is not as legible...
StarBear
Any luck with graphics? Just noticed mine has flaked off; used to be there...
Thanks!

George - Did anything ever develop with reproducing this sticker (late 1.8 tuneup sticker)? With folks really fixing up things lately, maybe could now get the 20 needed for a GB? Thanks!
StarBear
OK; have cleaned it up as best I could (I'm not a graphic artist) and resized. Here are the Before and After images. Still need cleanup to show the valve clearance space, extend the divider line and define the top timing arrow more clearly, but almost there!
VG-914 has offered to print, although currently separated from his printer.
Haven't quite figured out how to add members' names/links into a forum post (have seen it done), so will PM you.
Onward!

Here it is! As best as I could do, but better and correct size (75mm x 40mm) per member Oakpark. Sending to VG-914 for vinyl printing, though may not be until July until he's reunited with his printer. Onward!

I like it. And here I thought I was the only one that anal about one of these cars.

Well, I'm Virgo AND a recovering engineer, so speaks volumes about me! At least, at my age, I still remember some of these things (not so much about what I had for dinner last night, though...) beerchug.gif

Is you still have some time...

how about the periods in vor o. T.

Those are not arrows at the fan housing diagram. They are notches in the housing, which align with a mark on the fan.

Good spot, Jeff! Will work on it. Thanks!
StarBear
OK; here's my next effort. How does this look @JeffBowlsby (not sure how the notches are supposed to look, so sort of guessed)?Click to view attachment
JeffBowlsby
Nice photochop work.

You deleted the black marks on the fan (former arrows), but the marks are indicating where TDC is which s what you want to see with the strobe light.

Here's the next pass; will do timing light on mine to refresh my eyes/memory on how it's supposed to look. I think (?) I'm getting closer...
@oakpark and @VG-914 : still trying...!

StarBear
OK; getting closer! Still to confirm configuration of bottom of timing port. Onward!Click to view attachment
StarBear
OK; I think I have it. Have added the decimal in front of 006" and cleaned up/mocked up the timing marks. The bottom one still looks odd (no separate notch horizontal line like the top, but that's what the original seems to look like). What do you think, @oakpark , @VG-914 and @JeffBowlsby ?
StarBear
One last set of touch-ups. If interested, also made a parallel one with double lines across the bottom timing mark to match the top, but don't think the original had it.Click to view attachment
StarBear
Final tune up (pun intended) on the sticker image. Sent to member for printing!
Not concours grade by any means, but then neither am I.... smile.gif

@oakpark , @VG-914 and @JeffBowlsby ;
Haven't seen or heard anything lately, so wondering if there's still any interest in pursuing this. If so, a) is the one shown above sufficient, or b) should I keep pursuing a more intensive cleanup as shown below (redid the letters, numbers and far right graphic)?
If b), then could use a bit of others' eyes to figure out what the graphic for the valve clearance should look like - sort of like two arrows showing the gap between two spacing lines?

As a concours guy, I'd like it as original looking as possible
JeffBowlsby
This looks great! I have a 2.0L so I am not a customer but others will be I am sure.

@oakpark ; Does that mean leave the age/blurring (e.g. aged original) or continuing cleaning (e.g. as if new original)? Not sure. Thanks.
StarBear
Getting closer. Text, valve clearance section and timing section are done. Now onto the hardest part - the dizzy section. Learning a lot about graphic software and techniques.

Looking good. Obviously, as clear as it can be, but I'm liking what I'm seeing.
davep
It does look pretty good. I think the more crisp it is the better; that is they way the originals were. I don't need the 1.8 since most of mine are 2.0, but I do have some NOS labels from 30 years ago. I think they are all in the parts list above.

@DaveP Have any NOS 1.8L stickers? I'm having a hard time understanding the detailed lines, working off the wrinkled, dirty photo. Working off a fresh one would really help! Will PM you.
davep
No, I do not have that decal.
StarBear
OK, really getting closer (see photo). Question for @oakpark @VG-914 and others: What to do with the three "blob" circles to the left of the dizzy - remove or keep? If keep, what are they supposed to look like? Can't tell from the original photo nor from looking at my actual one.

StarBear
@davep - I had an idea; if the base images are the same on the 2L sticker (see image above), could I buy one from you?
I'd then do a high-res scan (to get a good, clean and correct base), then overwrite the numbers and letters (which I've already done once, so could easily redo). This, I believe, would provide a clear, accurate reproduction of the 1.8L sticker.
If so, I'll PM you my home address.
Thanks.
StarBear
DONE! piratenanner.gif Have created 3 versions, all at proper size (75mm x 40mm) - 1. Original; 2. Cleaned and 3. Restored. If anyone wants to print, just PM me with your email address and which file you'd like; I'll send the full file to you.
Here they are:
1. Original

2. Cleaned

3. Restored (Don't know why this is showing up in a slightly larger size)

Not perfect, but as I noted early on, I'm not a graphic artist and doubt folks could detect glitches in a rather small sticker, in a semi-dark engine compartment. Onward!
PS: @VG-914 if you print them, could you send me two?
StarBear
@oakpark @jeffbowlsby @dr914 @autoatlanta.com
All done - see above.
davep
Looks good. It does not appear that I have the 2,0 decal either. The little lumps on the side of the distributor are probably the clamps for the cap.

Ah, yes - the clamps. Good catch. Deciding whether if the effort to attempt to draw them in or not.

Here it is, with the "clamps" inserted. Haven't done final high-res version, pending any input or other suggestions. Whew!

I can't believe it's been two months since I followed this chain of commentary. I'm very impressed with the work that's been done. I would put my name on the dotted line for a sticker.

I fly back to Phoenix on August 11th, and should have enough vinyl label paper that is close to the original sticker to make about 50 copies. I have to admit... if my AC quit in the house at all while I've been gone, it could be a loss! - but I think will be fine... aktion035.gif

@VG-914 - How are you doing these days? Getting back on your feet? If you don't have access to your printer (or it self-destroyed while you were gone), I can print up a small number (inkjet, not laser and on Avery coated self-adhesive paper) and send them to @oakpark and @fiacra (just PM your mailing address to me).
I've have mine on for about 2 months now, and several medium-length drives, and it's held up just fine.
Just let me know!

I think this is the first time I've checked this post in 3 months. If the engine sticker is done and available, please let me know how to order and pay for it.

@oakpark : @VG-914 is still trying to get his formal printer running (see above). I have some done via a standard home inkjet printer ("Best" setting) on glossy adhesive photopaper; it's held up during summer/fall driving (not driven in rain, so can't vouch for that aspect). PM your address; I'll be glad to send you one.
