I have an old pair of rear Kontrolle shocks that I bought for my first 914. They can't have more than a few hundred miles on them. My recollection is that they were an "economy" shock so maybe not any better than KYB. It was 35 years ago, but I liked the ride they gave - stiffer than the blown Sachs they replaced. Don't know if I'd like them now.

Anyway, I had forgotten about these shocks and bought a pair of Bilsteins for my build. I just ran across them in the shed and wonder if they are worth passing on to someone or if I should just scrap them. Can't find much info on the Interwebs.

Pass them on. They were good shocks. Seems like they were Boge/Sachs made in Mexico. Just didn't have pedigree.

Well dang. That means I just spent big bucks on a pair of Bilsteins only because Boge/Sachs are NLA and I had a perfectly good pair in my shed all along. Why didn't I post this two weeks ago?

I like the ride of the Billy’s but you can always try them and if they work for you, sell the new ones.

It's not hard to swap them out especially when everything is new.
I'd try them both and keep the set you like.

Sounds like a plan. No doubt I'll like the expensive ones but I am curious to experience how these cars must have ridden when new. The suspension on all the 914s I've owned and driven were well past their prime before I plopped my butt in them.

Bilstein were an oem option.

True, but they weren't on THIS car when it was new.

Kontrolle shocks are heavy duty hydraulic shocks, that were made in the Boge factory in Mexico.

Those are not 914 front inserts. The SWB 911 were different. The collar and centering is different.

you are probably correct , The add says 2 different fitments available,,67-8 and 69 71..

Great timing of this post. Just cleaned up my rear shocks and saw that they are Kontrolle as well. Had no knowledge of them before reading this thread.
