Hey guys.

My GT rep has been shortlisted for a UK Porsche magazine "car of the year" award.
I'm a realist, and know it doesn't stand much chance of winning... it’s a 914 that snuck into magazine bought mostly by 911 owners for goodness sake unsure.gif

But wouldn't it be nice for the only 914 on the magazine's list of nominated cars not to come bottom, especially in this the model’s 50th birthday...

So would you do me... hang on, would you do all of us, the 914 fans - a favor, and take a minute to vote...

http://www.mediajustice.co.uk/pv/vote/

THANKS for all your support!

Here is a pretty photo of the car, in case you are wondering.
It's running a hotted up 3.0 6 pot on Webers. It's got a front mounted oil cooler, big brakes, stiff suspension, GT strengthening kit, sticky tyres.
Inside there's a roll cage, harnesses, rally intercom (I just fitted a 2 in 3 out exhaust ), and period style race seats.
I like to get it out on track, and it's even been driven at Silverstone by Richard Attwood.

You get the idea... I built something to threaten the 911 boys!

Thanks guys for the votes and the compliments... I'm flattered, keep 'em coming! hands.gif

Some of you asked for more photos, here are a few...

By way of background: it's thanks to the forum that I have the car: In 2015 I bought it from a 914world member in Texas, and imported it to the UK.

When it arrived in London it was a very tidy, narrow body 914/6 rep in Light Ivory:

But soon after I set to work to make it into my fantasy GT, for use on track and for tours to European historic race events:

Although I like to keep it shiny and clean...:

...I jump at every opportunity to use it in anger:

Cars are to be enjoyed, and I don't mind letting friends drive mine...

Here's my good pal Stephen (Defianty) about to drive off without me:

IPB Image

He is part way through a tip top GT build, and has a thread here on the forum about the project:

Richard Attwood, famous F1 and sportscar driver, and winner of Le Mans 1970 in a 917, taught me the way around Silverstone in the car:

Even my dear old grandmother (89 years young) was behind the wheel recently:

In the cabin it's safe, snug, and purposeful:

While outside the growl is not exactly "family friendly", now that I've recently fitted a new muffler:

IPB Image

I make sure it's well looked after, and gets to hang out with other Porsches old:

...And new (not to mention big!):

...And whenever possible I like to take it on tours with its sister car, my 2.7RS rep:

But of course the best part is keeping the car on the button, for when this guy's feet can reach the pedals!

Voted! It’s the least I could do to return the vote favor to a fellow World member. This group helped vote my 76 teener to a lopsided win in 2002 for the Modesto Bee’s COTY award. I didn’t even know about everyone’s help until years later when I was reading old posts one late night Ty all again... beerchug.gif

Thanks guys for all of the support, it's truly humbling! blush.gif

Keep the votes coming please!

Let me offer up some more details about the car, this time to explain some of its emotional significance.

For nearly 15 years my cars were always looked after by one London based early Porsche specialist, a chap called Chris Turner.
Chris first opened a Porsche workshop in the early 70s and, always being a hands on guy, he probably worked on more early Porsches than any other UK mechanic.

He wasn't just knowledgeable, he was also one of the most generous guys you could meet.
He regularly worked for free, and loaned tools and parts (oftentimes "permanent loans") to customers in need.

Sadly we lost Chris to cancer in 2017.

My 914 was actually one of the very last cars he worked on before shutting up shop.

The DDK forum in the UK support a charity called Macmillan Cancer Support:
https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ddk10kfor10years

In memory of Chris we had a batch of Chris' original window stickers printed, and raised over $500 for the charity, selling them to his ex customers:
http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewtopic...=41&t=60486

Needless to say, my car will always proudly display one of these stickers in the rear window...
