I think there can be very little doubt now that Porsche has embraced the 914 again. This was at the Techno Classica show. They did the same thing with the 356 for a long time, practically denied they ever built it, didn't support it with parts, etc, and then later re-discovered it when it reached 50 years. Better late than never.

It's funny how the little car we know is a perfectly balanced machine. Hard to beat the two seat, middle motor and 4 wheel disc brakes for a starting place. Diidn't they use that one some later models?

Yes. Nice to see that afyer 50 years, the new (mid-engine) Corvette is finally coming up to par with the 914.

Notice they put the 4 cylinder (green) car behind the one 8 cylinder (silver) and two 6 cylinder (orange and yellow) cars...

Nice. The 914 always was a unique car with fantastic handling.

I've often thought the 914 would have a real winner if they would have just offered the 2L/4 and /6 from the start instead of the anemic 1.7L/1.8L.

I think they can call it whatever they want.

Doesn anyone know what color silver they used.

Not at all looking to troll, but is this really true? The 356 was the first and only Porsche (aside from tractors) until the 911 went into production. Hard to imagine that they would deny their first ever production car. Yes, it's ass-engined, but Porsche ultimately decided to go this route to have more seats and appeal to a larger percentage of the buying public.

I can understand why Porsche would be into revisionist history with the 914 as it was a joint venture with VW, but the 356 was their bread and butter.

As soon as the 911/912's were the only cars in the showroom Porsche did less every year to support the 356. To the point of filling dumpsters with parts. That's how a whole market was created around reproduction parts, people like Stoddard and Tweeks filled the void left by Porsche. Only recently have they remembered what the 356 is.

I think we'd all agree with this, given how much we love this car and what we know they're like with more horsepower, brakes, etc.

Lately I've been giving some thought to the approach on 914's. I think one of the major factors that hurt how it was received was by giving it the 6 cylinder early in it's production run. Usually manufacturers start with a base and then build the car up over the production run. Porsche certainly did that with the 356, 911, 924/944/968 series, Boxster... As time went on they added larger engines, better suspensions, turbos, you name it. But with the 914 they went about this completely opposite.

I think the 914 would've fared better had they started with a 1.7. Then maybe upped the horsepower and/or displacement. Then offered the six cylinder and all of the upgrades associated with that. Just like now, it gives the current owner something to move up to when they're ready for a new car. As it was , if you had a ''71 914 and were ready for a new ride in 1975, I'd argue that you didn't get much more in a '75 914 than the '71. I guess maybe Porsche executives looked at the 914 and just thought if someone was ready for a new Porsche, the assumption was that they'd buy a 911.

In any event, I think Porsche knows better now.

Porsche dealer parts 2019 calendar, only classic in it is a 914/6.
