If all goes well today I will be the proud owner of a 1973 914. I was wondering if there are any pre cautions before transporting it 222.miles. I was planing on using a car dolly. The car suffers from the usual rocker rust. one door slightly sticks. the guy selling doesn't know much about these cars and jacked it up by the rockers and noticed some body flex just enough to get both doors to ketch on the latches but still open and close. I'm not sure this was the best test for body integrity but he was trying to answer my question the best he new how. I have a local experienced body specialist and mechanic who knows these cars and will be restoring this one for me. over all the body is in very good condition and I am getting a fair price. I thought I read something about disconnecting the battery before pushing the cars with fuel injectors. Is this a farce or for real?

Just make sure the car is in Nuteral..... One other thing in Most states the Law requires that if any wheels are touching the ground even if being towed that the vehicle be registered.... ohmy.gif

first, welcome !

i'd be curious what the 'something' is, and it may be a good idea to disconnect the ground strap just on general principles, but as long as the transmission is in neutral, the engine won't be turning, in which case, the injectors couldn't care less...

Any moment now, maybe Darling Dave will come along, a year and a day older, and tell the story of the 14,000 RPM towed bug..

thanks
I found out the car had some major structural damge that someone did a cob job attempt to fix it and it was rusting through. I got the pic within hours of closing and let it go to another bidder. I could just see the thing splitting in half as its being towed down the highway at 70mph. clap.gif

I'll be back to bidding after my vacation in mid july.
