So I'm sure this will end up towards the top of my list of bad ideas.

I have a really clean 75' roller I bought as a 2 for 1 deal with 73' parts car.

I've decided to reassemble enough of it to make it driveable to WCR

it has a franken-motor in who knows what condition

Trans is there and it shifts by hand easily

The rest of the car is in boxes or in it's trunk/frunk

I'm going to start on Saturday and document the shenanigans just for comedic purposes.

Wish me luck!

@Chi-town 's addiction would make for a great reality show! But seriously, he can stop any time he wants!

I assembled a bare chassis in 28 days before a Ramble, so I know it's possible.... but I was in my late 20s at the time laugh.gif

Stay focused and dedicated.

Steve, are you referring to your car as a piece of Silver? I'm sure it can't be anything less than that.

Just fly out. Someday will never come.

rhodyguy
Right. Someday is always tomorrow. Always.

How it starts, need to take care of all the surface rust from sitting in primer for 20+ years

One side done before having to get everything packed for the swap meet the next morning.

Sorry for the huge pics, will resize when I get home

Are your plans to do a quick respray and reassemble in the 5 weeks??

Looks like a clean shell.. I need you to send me a clean on of those someday.
PanelBilly
It looked so good before.
Chi-town
No respray, just going to run the primer as the car will probably be sold after the event and the new owner can choose the color.

@mb911 let me know what you want and I'll find it for you beerchug.gif

What does everyone use to plug the front bumper shock holes?
Make a plate or is there a rubber grommet that will work?

You might be able to find a rubber grommet. Some guys make up nice metal or glass plates. If you are just trying to get the car running, tape it shut.

Yep, speed tape if I can't find something

Reinstalled the oil filter housing and oil cooler, added some fresh oil and a filter and woohoo the motor cranks! piratenanner.gif

Compression about 110psi, not too bad for a 1.8 that hasn't turned in decades.

I gotta rebuild the Webers, at least they're Italian ones.

Reinstalled the tin, ordered a bunch of tune up parts for it. Next up is the alternator and fan shroud.

Reinstalled the front / rear trunk, and engine cover latches and springs to keep panels from flying up or off laugh.gif

Once the engine and trans are buttoned up it's on to the suspension!

sb914
Nice job ! Keep it up.
Chi-town
Front bumper back dated but I need a front valance, anyone have a used stock, fiberglass, or otherwise in SoCal?

I need to order a new alternator harness to get the front of the engine back together.

I'll get the back bumper back dated tomorrow then start working on suspension.
jim_hoyland
There was a kit available to cover the bumper shock holes; Engman ?
Chi-town
Looks like I may have found some
Chi-town
Ok, 1 week to go.

Brakes and suspension are done.
Parts are here for the fuel system and exhaust install
Interior is there enough to look semi-normal
Windshield and rear glass are glued in
Bumpers are backdated

Just finished rebuilding the Italian Webers but not sure if I want to use them or a set of HPMXs

Need to order tires

Is it that bad to run without the engine tray seal? laugh.gif
rhodyguy
If the Webers are 40s, I think they would be ones go with on the 1.8. HPMXs are known to be problematic. New ones never been run? What size Venturi? If the engine is installed, the shelf seals can wait.
Chi-town
I tossed the Webers on for now to get it running, if they become an issue I'll switch over to the hpmx.

Fuel system buttoned up today so we might get startup this weekend?
sb914
confused24.gif Dylan did you make it?

Final update

Car is finished last night at midnight and I made it to WCR today.

I took home the trophy for "Most Potential" and a Spirit award.

Overall I'm happy with the car, it drives well for no tuning on the carbs (which are Dellorto 40's now) and handles well despite an eyeball alignment.

There's a good chance it's headed to the UK now that I'm done with the project but you never know.
