How far are you to completion?

0ver 30 years ago, I had 2 1954 Speedsters, let them go to finance a cool historic building. In my head I justified the fact I can live in the building, but can't live in the Speedster. The 2 that got away headbang.gif

The biggie is the paying to have the 2.8 built...all the parts bought and paid for, just the labor the pay for an expert putting it together. Once that's done, it'll mostly be sweat equity putting everything together and getting some expert friends to baseline it.

I've put off the car project for similar reasons, a house helps 3 of us, and car just one. I did have to sell off my 280c and some motorcycles I'd love to have back...but the 914 will never go.

As for the house, the only part left is turning my screen porch into a 3-season sunroom....hopefully that's just $10k in windows and a lot of labor hours.

I have an ongoing project that keeps stealing time from my real passion, The Race Car, Carerror soon to be christened Aoouuu ( a howl that I do when excited). Another passion I have is being addicted to smoke, in one form or another. You would be very hard pressed to find better baby backs, I love Ribs. That being said I am a total failure at brisket. So I saw someone that inspired me to try again at brisket. I'm building a Smoker for Brisket, a dule basket brisket rotisserie. I saw a video of brisket done in a rotisserie at about 10 RPM. In their set up the brisk hardly dripped at all. Slowly boiling in it's own smoked tallow.

All automotive stuff's on hold at the moment - been having to deal with an estate attorney to get a trust put together sad.gif

However, I plan to get my Cayman registered when I'm in AZ next month (it's been sitting in the garage out there unregistered since I bought it March of 2020) blink.gif

I think I bit off more than I can chew on the total wiring job chowtime.gif - may need some assistance from one or two of you local guys in getting it completed confused24.gif

it is the beginning of the season here, so time to work outside. Engine /trans comes out then all the suspension. I have been dreading this because everything needs to be stripped for paint, and my hands hurt. With hundreds of sanding hours ahead I was surfing the web and came across an ad for a blast cabinet. $214.00 was the price with a gun on Temu. Ok must be tiny right, no, not really. 33" wide top loader that would fit a trailing arm and most everything else. I could not buy the metal to make it for that sooo:

It is a second, didn't pass quality control is my guess. Bad spot welds, mounts breaking off that I had to drill and bolt, a dent from a bent mount on the top and through a little red on the missing paint. With a few upgrades this will be a wonderful tool for my hands
and have the suspension ready for paint toot sweet.

still in transition moving/relocating, so 914 is in SC while i'm in GA, still looking for a place in Atlanta/Marietta to put it, dont have a house yet and im not putting it in a apartment complex parking lot! It might be staying in a friends garage in SC until we get a house and garage of my own, and the house in SC closes in 3 weeks , im back on the weekend to load up the container, hoping i can get all the tools and parts and bins in it!
Today and next week are the loading days. Thats why no work on the 914! and it has something going on with it studdering, cutting in and out, and i didnt get it figured out last time here unfortunately, it may be a while before i get to work on it, as the tools will mostly be in storage in a container after next week! dry.gif

Been working on too many landscaping projects! Trying to see how far we can get before snow falls. Put in a new field stone retaining wall and started steps this week. It's been a while since I've done this kind of work-slow getting started, especially working the heavy stuff by myself. Picture's don't quite do it justice. The steps are correctly pitched.

That bottom stone is about 6-1/2 ft on the long edge for scale. Pushed the limits of my 8 ton backhoe. laugh.gif

Helped my daughter do a waterpump and a few other small items on her Tahoe. Shop wanted $1700 and 2-3 days to do it. $250 in parts/coolant and an afternoon (fortunately up in the 40's today and sunny) and she's on her way.
She normally does all her own work, just had never done a pump before.

Haven’t had the 914 out in a couple weeks now. I’ve been busy adding another 12x40 area to my shop. My shop is 30’ x 50’ and had a full length lean-to on one side. I’m enclosing the rear 40’ of the lean-to so I can have a clean place to park the 914 while working on my next project. The rear section will also serve as a paint booth when needed. To that end, I installed an exhaust fan at the bottom of the rear wall.

Still have more to do but it’s almost done…..

I hung a couple of 8ft double rows of LED light in my shop. From Amazon at $18 per delivered with all hardware, these are a screaming deal. They have and are outlawing florescent lights. These work great

Haven't worked on the 914 in about a week, too much shit happening here. Really. I built a Jetter just to clear some shit. In the background you can see that my dog ate my homework. The new connection box is now under the trailer and I still need to do the trailer brakes. A hole new brake a way system should arrive today. Still need to do some work on both the other projects but the car is over in her new shop. I can't wait to start working there.

Picked up the 67 911 up from Scott's Independent in Anaheim and drove it for the first time! Still a few things to do but it's close!

Intro thread on the 911S board is here:

The 914 lives in the midwest so it's great to have another fun car to keep here in L.A.

Yeah - I know how fortunate I am. Very thankful.

I'm not doing any of the wrench-turning on this - leaving it to the professionals - but the 67 is getting closer to being "back" - suspension install is done, alignment and the euro ride height is set. New exhaust and muffler, a couple of leaks and a full detail to go....for now.

Nice. Would love to find a nice SWB 912- bid on one last week on BAT and had the bid at 2 minutes (which means nothing) but it went for a little more than I wanted, and it was in the wrong side of the country!!

In the middle of engine rebuild on my 930. Avoiding all major work on the 914 until the 930 is back on the road. I need to have one of my P-cars running at all times.

Today's chore was removing the half shafts. Will be cleaning, inspecting, repacking the CVs then install the shafts on the opposite sides.

Next is removal of the driver rear hub to do new bearings (pass side done a few years ago), new front bearings, and removal of the oil cooler and tank for cleaning.

Waiting for some lifting help to finish the engine swap. Need my son and one or two of his friends to lift the "new" engine off the stand and mate to the transaxle... then I can do the rest.
Been doing this since the early '70's but the 75 year old body doesn't quite move like it used to!!

I hear ya, Stu, even though I'm only 71 ... the years have definitely taken their toll.

Just a couple days ago, one of my neighbors asked when I was going to finish an old bike project. I said I'd probably need a hand getting the motor out of the crate and into the chassis. Otherwise, I can handle everything else shades.gif
