Elliot's broke into pieces. He welded it and then welded a doubler on to it. He thinks it will last awhile. biggrin.gif

The brackets are barely up to doing the job. they take the stress of a shaking heavy alternator. Thick load bearing washers could help. Was looking a a better bracket. the U shaped one is more simple to make thicker. The curved one is a more complex shaped stamping. Maybe a two piece weld together curved bracket of thicker steel ?

First look at where they break,
Then figure out why they break (bad alternator imbalance, over tightened belts, age/fatigue?)

The bracket is the "fuse" in this setup.
If you make a superior bracket will the vibration then transfer into the shroud? Possibly breaking the stud or cracking the shroud?

The type 4 bus engine uses a much longer version of our bracket and it doesn't fail, why not?

Has anyone looked into a more current technology (aka smaller, lighter) alternator?
