Started to clean up and rebuild two DRLA carbs that's been sitting for the last 26 years. Put the first one in ultrasonic cleaner with mixture of Simple Green and water for 15 mins, came out quite nice. Got distracted with the second one, left it in the solution for 30 min after, came out really dark. The surface definitely looks altered. Anyone has any idea how to reverse this. I suspect the solution might have etched the surface. Hopefully the attached picture will show the different shades of the two carbs. Click to view attachment

2nd time around your solution was dirty.
That tells me there's a fair bit of copper in the alloy, it leached out 1st carb and deposited on the 2nd.
First thing I'd try is do it again with fresh solution. If that fails it will come off with a gray 800g scotchbrite pad.
it's just smut, a thin layer of grime, it won't hurt anything.
BTW Fuchs rims can do the same thing when you strip them, how I know about this.
