I'm looking for a trailer hitch that I can put on my 1973 914 for the purposes of pulling a very small trailer for track days.

AFAIK nobody makes them anymore, although somebody on here may have an older one, & some have custom fab'ed them.

One that was around back in the day is shown in the ad pic below, & that company is still in business. So you might try to contact them to see if they'll make one, or sell you their plans to have it fab'ed near you.

... I think the 914 hitch is in the top left of the pic on the left.

It was sturdy enough to tow up to 800 or 1000 lbs of trailer, & 914ers used to tow teardrops, small fiberglass travel trailers (Boler, Casita, etc.) & German/USA made 680 lbs. Eriba Pucks (as ours in the pic below which we currently tow with our `88 Westy van, & I may try to build or get a 914 hitch for it too).

So your track gear + trailer should work as long as within their specs for trailer & tongue/hitch weight.

I recently took pics of some installation instructions for a H&H 914 trailer hitch. I had one years ago, and was going to get a small trailer for PA gear, which I never did. Traded it to a guy in Memphis

The 914 hitch appears in about the center of the left picture.
Note the legs that extend up to the rear transmission mounts.
Could be useful if you decide to fabricate your own hitch.

That was a great thread! Being a welder, I think I could fab sumthin like that. I particularly like that Harbor Freight trailer. Most perfect!

Awesome that you had those build sheet drawings!
For me, I have no bumper and I'm way way way away from stock. So I think I'll be making a receiver and mounting it in the trunk to come through where the bumper used to be. The HF trailer only weighs 150 Lbs, so a simple receiver mounted on a plate in the trunk should do the job.
That said, just having those plan drawings posted for searches will serve the community well my friend! Kudos to you ;-)

I found their number too with a google search last Fall, & thought that their new number worked then. You or others may have to do a wider google search for the biz listings, to see if they've changed the number, have a website now, etc.

However, Thanx to Ironhill's installation instructions pix, anyone could probably measure their 914 vs the drawings & fab one up themselves.

It sounds like the HF receiver that Gerald used is what you want to do on yours Halfmoon.

Another source for more hitch build components is eTrailer.com, since they sell 1.5" & 2" etc. receiver tubes of various lengths, with which you could probably fab an angle plate to attach up under the rear trunk floor (would need to remove the muffler to install, such that the receiver can sit under the bumper or valance in order to not have to cut either of those nor the real trunk wall.

BTW - my Mom's Mom's side of the family comes from not far from you, over west in Paw Paw & Berkeley Springs - Youngbloods & a bunch of other family names.
Can't throw a rock without hitting kin over there!

I had two of them both home made that I would have sold, no one wanted them at the time. My EG build has one in it, much like Garolds, with my over building flare.
