Hi, for some reason my local flaps only carries 50wt VR1, is anyone using this? Is it maybe to thick for my 4cyl? Thanks much in advance

It's a bit thick Shane. I run 40w around here(Tacoma) in the summer, and 30w in the winter. Baxter carries VR1 40w. Which store are you looking at?

Might try Pep Boys or Advanced up on the hill. I know Autozone can be slim on choices like Oreilly's. Might have better luck at NAPA, too.

Okay thanks will drive around a bit more, was thinking 50wt might be okay for an older engine with miles on it. Was looking for 20/50 to run for a year round oil. Well hopefully I’ll be running soon I haven’t started it up for around 3 years since replacing all the seals on the outside of the engine including a few on the trans. Hoping it will all work out.

Should be able to find VR1 in 20w50. I'd run that rear round in my older aircooled cars with miles. No problems. Straight 50w is a little different.

Be sure to check out the links in my signature, too. Got 914 Turnout coming up, and trying to revive the teener tuesday meets.

Autozone web site shows it in stock at at least a couple locations in Puyallup. beerchug.gif

I run VR1 20W50 in both my 914 and 911.

Careful with VR1 as they make a synthetic VR1 as well. I almost walked out of my FLAPS with the synthetic VR1 when I commented about the high price and the sales guy pointed out that I had the synthetic.

My OReillys moved the VR1 20-50 Racing Oil non synthetic to behind the wall in a section for Motorcycle Oil. FYI

Autozone has VR1.... At least in SoCal.

BTW, the bottle has changed. If you are used to looking for the old bottle of VR1, the new bottle blends in with all the other oils.

My local Auto Zone has 2qts for $11 on Conventional VR1 20/50 don’t know if that’s all of them or what.

Makes me miss the old $1/qt sale AutoZone had some time back. Still have 40+ quarts. Don't judge - I don't have a hoarding problem, I swear....

lol-2.gif yeah I’ve only owned my little bundle of joy for around 4 years now but I would have probably bought out the store for that price. As it is I only got 4 qts from my local store for $22 bucks.

More changed with VR1 than the bottle.... Happened about 8 months ago.

Can’t find anything about it, I don’t suppose it’s even better then before.

IMHO 50 or 20/50 is too thick for northern states/canada.
I recommend a 15w40 up here.
