Hi all,

Looking for some help, is there a way to raise the headlights manually (73 914)? I did a search but get totally unrelated threads. Doing a complete teardown of the car and need to eventually remove the assemblies. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Black knob on the back of the headlight motor.

Thanks....but will this work without battery power?

Yes. It turns the motors to raise the headlights. Remove the relay below the headlight motors if you want them to stay up. Otherwise the minute power is reapplied, they will go back down.

Yes, you're manually spinning the motors instead of having the battery do it.

In fact if the battery is plugged in, depending on where the switch is positioned, the headlights will try and 'bite' you since after enough turns the contacts in the motor assembly will bridge and end up automatically forcing the headlight to cycle open and closed again.

Don't ask me how I learned that one.

Yes. The knob is a safety feature in case the motor and or motor drive components fail and the lights don't pop up for driving at night.
