356 came in 4th overall, on the asses of 3 911s. He was behind and cought the leaders and backed off so he would not embarass the 911 guys.

Isn't that precisely why he shouldn't have backed off??!!
Anytime I ever had the chance to embarass the big iron, I never let the opportunity by.
You didn't say, but this was Fontana, correct? My old friend Bill called me from the track. Said it brought back many fond memories. He and I hung with the roadrace crowd in the late '60's and '70's. He hand a friend at Fontana with a Chevron-Cosworth B/sports racer.
